Is #xijinping about to step down? This video suggests he may be under house arrest, having been pushed out by senior #CCP greybeards.

@TimWardCam @dgar if I'm going to a site already with the intention of spending money, these clicks actually artificially inflate the client's click through conversion rate because they are paying for sales they would have gotten organically
@TimWardCam @dgar people do click through, I certainly do a lot, because many of the ads are for websites that would have been on the first page in the top 3 results anyway, but those results are now below the fold.
This happens especially when you type the url for a site in the omnibox and instead of going there you get a google search result instead, because it decided to autocomplete it (badly)
I have just realised #sainsburys have different skus for the chilled and non chilled #soy milk, and it's 30p more for the one in the fridge!
Well I think I've finally managed to (mostly) #degoogle and #deaws myself, and my Google One account is now cancelled.
I've managed to move all my email, contacts, calendar, drive files and server backups over to a mixture of #ionos #nextcloud + object store.
Photos have been #selfhosted on #photoprism for some time now.
Still have an android phone, though. Don't think I'm going to do much about that.
@That_One_Guy @moelassus kind of annoying (or suspicious, depending on POV) that the article doesn't identify model or brand of inverter so nobody can verify it or take any remedial action.
@That_One_Guy @moelassus seems like the reference to remote shutdown of inverters in November is probably about Deye inverters:

It's heartening to see some good things happening in Madagascar, this #reforestation technique seems to be quite promising and helps out local communities.

One of the ways in which modern technology exposed poor #management:
Ever ordered something from a fast food outlet with one of those touch screen menus, or a click and collect order from a store, and your order is "ready" before it's even humanly possible?
That's because staff are gaming the system for better #metrics and everyone in the whole chain down from the top is malincentivised, instead of paying attention to how their systems really work and what customers are actually experiencing.
@etchedpixels @ChrisMayLA6 I agree older people are potentially more vulnerable and are unlikely to want to downsize.
However being elderly and living alone is not great either, esp if you don't have younger family nearby.
I think as a society we should look at strategies that can avoid pensioner loneliness such as more communal living. As well as preparing financially for retirement perhaps we should be preparing socially as well
A sorry tale of how shoddy procurement practices caused the government to waste millions of pounds on useless equipment fighting the #pandemic

1/2 Interesting observation by poll expert @markpackuk.bsky.social on #UK #Reform vote:
“A pool of potential switchers to Reform does exist inside the Labour vote. However, they are only one small part of what is an increasingly complex electoral coalition for the government…
What will, and won't, work for...
@Aminorjourney ignore them - keep doing what you're doing, the rest of us are rooting for you both and the rest of TE, your videos are excellent.
Hopefully things may reach a turning point of the good kind in the US although nobody can predict when that might happen.
@aeischeid will you be reporting back if you wet the bed or not?!
I think this sums up my feelings about the hysteria surrounding the Tony #blair climate change report.

@grammargirl this made me think of the mind viruses propagated in the meme wars described in John Barnes' scifi novels.
Kind of terrifying that we've now invented software that can get into people's heads just by talking to it.
