Moved to @Mycroft

2018-10-30

Just of note:
I'm over at @Mycroft primarily. That's Mycroft at meow.social, because the link might not work.

I moved a while back, to gain access to the larger fediverse, and since haven't really done much with this account.

Reminder that Awoo.Space's primary goal is to operate an instance that deliberately maintains a small whitelist of instances they federate with, as a "safe space" (my words) against potential abuse out there in the fediverse.

It's not here as "the furry server". While a lot of furries are here, there are many other furry-oriented and furry-friendly instances out there that are more connected.

I'm lucky enough to not need the anti-abuse for my primary account.

Hey Awoo.spacers!

I just learned that awoo.space defederated with my main instance's account, @Mycroft. So if you were following it and stopped seeing updates, that's why.

Developers who re-used open source software in violation of license, to enable homebrew and "backup" content to be played on the Nintendo Switch, have implemented nasty DRM on their paid product.

Pirated piracy software has anti-piracy measures. arstechnica.com/gaming/2018/06

@noiob Hm, then. I don't know. I have an app that has permission to change my system's volume, both media and notification, so I'm sure the access is there somewhere. Maybe apps choose not to implement it, or it's difficult to implement so apps don't bother unless they really need to?

2018-02-23

@raccoon Sounds improbable, but if all else checks out, that's gotta be it.

2018-02-23

@raccoon please don't, I'm just trying to cover all the bases, even experts can get caught of guard by simple problems

though by first build I meant this being the first time all these parts are assembled new, as opposed to upgrading an existing cpu or mobo etc

2018-02-23

@raccoon I'm sure all of the Good Folk are able to help in their own way

make sure all the proper psu cables are in, but looked ok in the video

"cmos clear" type jumper near the battery isn't set wrong

??? jorts?

2018-02-23

@raccoon If this is a first build, make sure all packaging and protective stuff is removed between the cpu and the heat sink; should only be a little square of gunk that came on the heatsink, or a small dab of thermal paste you put on yourself

try it disconnected from the case, like sitting on the cardboard box the mobo came in. nothing conductive!

leave an offering of food out overnight to entice shoemaker elves to visit and fix it for you

different power supply?

2018-02-23

@raccoon Basics, off the top of my head:

check case motherboard standoffs to make sure only ones there match up exactly with the motherboard, no extras

it looks like you're using onboard video, is it a cpu/mobo combo that will do that? I learned all but the new special amd ryzen will not output video on motherboards that have video connectors

does the mobo firmware support the cpu? most of the new ryzen with gpu chips require a firmware update before they'll work for example

@typhlosion this is the only one I played much and technically it's hybrid puzzle awoo.space/media/tJdAgcGBeRTXa

2018-02-16

@noiob I think you caught the attention of the anime nerds at resize club maybe

2018-02-05

@noiob yeah, just running setup from the hard drive makes installation faster, and had the side benefit of never asking to insert the cd if you change any settings

if you can boot to dos with cdrom support, I recommend copying the cd's \winme folder to the hard drive somewhere (like c:\winme) and running setup from there (if a reinstall is what you want to try)

... it might be \win9x instead, it's been so long...

2018-02-05

@noiob if you have the setup files for Windows on the hard drive, you can try an over-the-top reinstall that keeps all the drivers, programs, and most settings
most oems have them in c:\Windows\options\cabs
if you get an error saying something about you have to get an upgrade disk, delete or rename c:\Windows\win.com first and try again

2018-02-05

@noiob ah, I just remember that being a setting in older pcs that would cause Windows not to boot if it was set to something other than the setting Windows was installed under

good luck

2018-02-05

@noiob did you switch from... I forget what is called, standard or compatibility mode, to acpi or vice versa? that makes most any Windows cranky, switching back can placate it
