I don't remember the context or what started the conversation. My cousin and I were still kids/young teens, she mentioned something kind of similar to "I am American". I was confused and said, "Oh, I'm American too! ".
- "No your not. You are Mexican."
- "What? but America is a continent."
- "I mean North America"
- "You are in North America..." (pointing playfully at the ground. I was joking at this point. I had already understood what she meant)
- That's not what I mean!!
It's weird to hear that you are not American. It's like someone told someone else "You are not Asian" or "You are not European".
