There is something magical about old machineshops, where the air smells of oil and metal, of usage and the weight of years upon years.

And processing photos afterwards allow me to try and capture that feel, a memory and sensation of all senses. The smell, the grime, and the light.

Strangely this is my first hike up Mount Løvstakken, despite it being right outside my house. We’ve spent a lot of time up on Mount Fløyen, which you can see to the left.

But this is my first hike up here. To my mountain, if I can call it that. It’s windy, the path is covered in snow and spotted with ice, and it’s a steep hike.

This hike is both physical and spiritual healing. My back hurts and is in need of a good hike, and my mood was growing gloomy sitting inside on a nice day. (Note to self; if you gotta spend hours at an airport, wear sensible shoes.)

I’ve quit my job at Kulturtanken, and moving on to greener pastures. Spending some days now «in-between» before starting up my new gig. And looking out at this view, I couldn’t be more content. There are mountains. There is quiet. There is peace.

Just too bad I didn’t bring some coffee, a flask and a pipe. There is always next time.

I love this picture, and I hate it. The mood and light is everything I loved about winters in Oslo while I lived there.

But the image is also a reminder of the bad sides. A week prior to taking this photo I slipped at the bottom of the slope and busted my knee up. I took this photo while on crutches on my way to work.

Oslo winters can be beautiful, but most of the time it is just horrible. Slippery gray snow hiding slippery fucking ice.
