(Playing the newly released Rosewater which I’m very much enjoying, but I’m still formulating my thoughts on why.)
Recently bought a Steam Deck and I kept joking that surely it will “fix everything in my life”, but I actually have very much appreciated that it’s made playing point and click adventure games so much easier. Like, last night I picked up and put down the device while I was grilling dinner and it wasn’t a big deal to pop in and out. Even with a laptop, it always felt like a production to play that style of game.
@holmfry I have no metrics but {wearing my marketing hat} I’d recommend keeping the demo on the same page. That way everything is working to raise the visibility of that one page, any sort of backend ranking on Itch is combining that traffic, and you have an easier time communicating with those interested customers later at release.
@konstantinosd Oh! That looks neat! Adding to my wishlist now…

@pkw That’s exactly where I landed.
I’m cranky with how the Murderbot tv show has the main character immediately explain the name, but without yet establishing the context of the trauma said character went through for it to ironically name itself Murderbot.
So IntroComp is officially underway for this year. We're now accepting intents to enter! https://introcomp.org/ #InteractiveFiction
Yesterday I wrote a couple hundred lines of Inform7 code into Notepad and later plugged it into the main game. Ran perfectly.
I’m suspicious.
Sometimes I need to remind myself as I work on this text adventure that an advantage of interactive fiction is that I can make some things textual and not need to program/systematize them.
I need all apps to understand that because I watch one video with sound on doesn’t mean I want every video scrolling by to now play sound.
Do you have an IF game that has only been reviewed 5 times across IFDB and intfiction? Want more reviews? Sign up for the review-a-thon! Starts in July, but you can get on the board now.
I am so behind on all the great point and click adventures coming out this year. I keep buying them as I figure that’ll at least help the creators. I blame my son who is obsessed with Pikmin and finally convinced me to play Pikmin 4. It’s cute and there’s definitely something to managing and deploying a squad of little creatures to take on tasks. I hate the combat though.
Looking forward to attending Narrascope for a number of reasons, but large among them is that I’ll be riding a (non-Metro) train for the first time in a very, very long time.
I had some legendarily-bad experiences with trains long ago (pre smart phone long ago), so I’ll be happy for the fresh start, plus I’m excited to work on my game while traveling! (Or playing with my new Steam Deck!)
Want a challenge? Or thrive on making tiny games? Looking to do a little good?
Join the Neo-Twiny Jam!
You have 500 words to make an IF game.

I’m in the phase of my large text adventure where I just wrote a cool bit of puzzle and it works great in a separate Inform testing project, but inserted into the main code it doesn’t work at all and I cannot figure out why?!!!
It feels like summer out today, so what better time to announce the release of the demo of Camp Keepalive: Endless Summer!
Put on your camp manager hat, round up the counselors, and get out there and save some campers today!

Also, the park is at the edge of the Potomac River and for far too much time we watched a flock (flutter? pack? cloud?) of butterflies lick a dead fish. Apparently they like the salt and minerals! Nature is weird!
