5 years ago I wanted to make ugly PHP look like beautiful Ruby. Now I just want Ruby to look like Kotlin.
What's next? I'll wish my JS would just look like Rust?

After this LastPass debacle about encryption I still find myself advocating to encrypt, safely manage Pii, and introduce access controls early while everyone else just looks around and says, "naaaaw we aren't going to get hacked." ...sigh
I wanna fix all the ugly PHP out there until it looks like Ruby. I guess I could just write ruby. NAWWWWW I like a challenge.
One silly trick to clean up Laravel model events  https://gist.github.com/ninjapanzer/bc746692c3a6dcb8b64935abaf8eebc1

I have seen some lazy PHP code in my day but when did it become ok to make 5 or 10 db requests in a single MVC controller action. I blame it on the fact that Laravel by default does not stream the DB requests when the dev server is running unlike Rails
Rik Mayall sweats a lot. I mean that means nothing really. Just an observation while watching some old episodes of "Bottom"
"My emotions dictate how good of a programmer I am, I can see a direct proportionality between self-worth and self-confidence reflected in my code" - me telling a co-worker why you have to believe in yourself first the rest will come together on its own.
@PaulSCoder yikes, that is more than expected. Have found online that Fira Code plus FlottFlott is a close free alternative, so that's what I'm trying. Thanks anyway
And now my dog is judging me. Stop judging me DOG!
@cbowdon The official font is Operator https://www.typography.com/fonts/operator/overview/
its a little pricey and there are free alternatives out there too. But it is totally awesome I really like it.
As I think about it when I taught college level programming I naturally flowed from here is structure A and "where it shines is..." also you may think "oh man I could do this more easily... but don't"
I know when I was a student best practices were not a focus but since I joined Ruby the community has really propelled me into software craftsmanship
@smallbravecarnivore I don't think the solution should be to make things hard for people but I think libraries need more focused API's and the documentation needs to describe either the use case for the inclusion of a feature (esp from OSS) or just best practices. I blame this a little on stackoverflow but only a little bit. Developers need to learn to measure twice and cut once.
Just saying 500 characters is a perfect rantspace
 OK Opinion/Rant: I am all for lowering the barrier to entry for new developers but sometimes we need more "you must be this high to ride signs" The rampant abuse of AJAX makes me want to quit being a developer sometimes. Mind you these functions have nothing to do with each other but they have been forced into a syncronous pattern. Of course why one just one request

It's April and it's snowing 🤔
I spent 45 minutes in traffic to discover the accident that caused it was on the other side of a divided highway. That 45 minutes was caused by rubbernecking. 😫
I want my next job title to be "Destination Developer" so I will get to travel more.
@smashwilson@mastodon.rocks I just so badly want people to accept me for my code 💻
