@davidallengreen we really enjoyed the 2022 Persuasion. Most people hated it, but we felt the anachronisms made you think.

This post is about finally finding a book from one’s youth forty years later - and after nearly thirty years of searching.

It is also a tale about goblins and Christmas decorations; about the perils of ChatGPT and Artificial Intelligence; and about the real value of librarians, cataloguers, indexers, and archivists - what should be called the Noble Professions.

And it is an account that ends with not one but two wonderful events.

So if you are sitting comfortably, with a suitable seasonal drink, we will start with a bit of background and with a historical excursion.

And also...
“the land required for solar panels alone to provide all global energy is … less than the current land footprint of fossil fuel infrastructure”.
Amazing.
Oh and also, also...
“But as far as sheep grazing goes, solar is really good.”

HAPPY COMMA DAY

Today is when we celebrate good-hearted discussion about where the comma should go in God Rest You Merry, Gentlemen - and why.

And is it exhortation or injunction or what?

And what about the you/ye distinction?

@mock His last few days weren't great and when he stopped eating much it became obvious he had little quality of life left. Poor boy but sleeping now.

Not a good for us today. Sadly our little Tigger was overwhelmed by his kidney problems and was put to sleep this morning. Bless his little silver paws. Good night, sweet prince, and flights of cat angels sing thee to thy rest..

@davidallengreen So when you post in both places have you found a way to do that which doesn't involve manually copy-pasting?

Please for the love of everything use full stops.
I just had to read a post manually line by line for it to make sense because my screen reader uses them to break the flow of speech, and the next line joined on to the first one changed the intended meaning.
They are not rude, or intimidating or whatever the ridiculous reason is you don't like using them.

Delighted and relieved to see Restore Trust candidates were soundly beaten. None received more than 20,000 votes, while all National Trust preferred candidates received over 40,000 votes. RT spent nearly £100k on attack ads this year. Stay vigilant next year.

As there is nothing we in UK can do to affect the outcome, and as polls are unreliable, may be sensible to avoid looking at US news until the election.
