I have shockingly found a shop that sells all the parts & pieces for my old laptops (Well... the Dells, at least) & the prices are reasonable. Like $5 for some spare plastics that disappeared on me back in the 2010's.
The downside is they also have "Things".
Things like a dock that fits the two Latitudes, spare batteries for the Latitudes & the Inspiron, a new screen for the Inspiron... along w/ all the rest of the parts to essentially build whole new laptops. This could be dangerous. o.o
Ha HA! I made the mistake of letting one of my current old laptop projects update as I planned to crash for the night. -.-
I Really should add "Look into a possible Noctua Fan replacement" to my parts list. The fan's still plenty good & does a Fantastic job cooling the thing but Hot Damn! It still sounds like a jet engine when it ramps up to speed.
It also doesn't help that it's on a desk sitting right next to my bed. -.-
Little sketch for Mice Mondays. Hoping everyone has a good start to their week and work treats you well.
@karpour Neat! = )
Not a bad night. Got another old laptop functioning & found the CDs I'd been looking for mixed in w/ my boot discs & games.
They were just sitting in my box of old media. You know... the one filled w/ random floppies, burned CDs & ZIP Discs that Everyone has, right? Right? o.O
"But Proph, that's impossible."
It's a dual core that tops out at like 2.5 w/ maybe 4gigs of RAM. It's faster than my P4 on paper but runs so sluggishly that it might be mistaken for an older model.
It's a mess but one that I (theoretically) won't have to worry about soon enough.
Can't believe this new tech my Uncle picked up is somehow slower than the old tech I was just playing w/ over the weekend. My 2004 Dell shouldn't be faster than a NoName laptop made in the last 2yrs. -.-
A painfully slow laptop painfully slowly reinstalling Win11 & a cup of coffee. Just another Wednesday night here at the House of Amill. -.-
@vwestlife I always forget to check that aisle for drinks. I tend to stick to the sodas in the Spanish section. I'll have to see what my local Stop & Shop's got in next time. = )
@vwestlife Tried it once. Thought the same. I liked it. Haven't been able to find it in my area again, though. Like a weird blip in my local drink area. = )
And yes... I know it is very silly how happy I am to see an old HDD. There is a non-zero chance that it's only like three missing items & nothing else but it's fun for me to see where I left off w/ this laptop.
I rarely actually change equipment so it's a bit of a "Thing" when I do.
This is like an unexpected time capsule from Past Me... that also still has AIM installed. = )
I'm finding all this thanks to my Main System's utter refusal to run a copy of one of the old Launch CD Magazine discs & my utter inability to just let things die. = P
I love how I went from "I'm still feeling kinda' terrible. I'll trying running an old CD Magazine!" last night to finding a possible treasure trove of old info on a machine I thought was wiped ages ago not... 2hrs ago?
I'm currently updating an old Dell laptop that was previously one of my work systems.
It's got all my old "MogNet" stuff. It has a few items I don't have backed up elsewhere. It even still has AIM installed. = )
