I think I made the mistake of clicking the same link. It’s a Wikipedia link so how bad can it be?? I’m sure it’s a video taken from far away, right? Wrong. Sorry I clicked it.

The guy might have been a piece of shit but I didn’t need to see his murder from 5 ft away.

I’m using Tuta and didn’t even realize I couldn’t use Thunderbird if I wanted. I don’t currently want to but overlooked the fact it wasn’t an option.

I’m currently most disappointed with their email rules and calendar reminders. Can only create rules to send email to folders or trash - can’t forward or assign labels - and even more bizarre… can’t disable notifications on email your rules are handling. If I send some email to the trash automatically I still get an email notification. And calendar reminders have preset values - various min and hour options - but you can’t customize them. Glad I left Gmail but I miss some of its functionality.

Sheesh… Alaska I might have predicted because of the ratio of men to women there. But what’s up with Arkansas??

To be fair when it’s a product a person didn’t ask for and the OS forced it on them, it’s not unreasonable that they may not understand how it works and make mistakes.

Nope, no message and bitlocker wasn’t ever used… this is a Windows 10 Home edition. Also no swap or hibernate file. The disk nor these volumes were ever a boot drive.

Strange behavior when mounting volume on Linux vs Windows

It certainly depends. I’m not sure what qualifies as “most people” now. Plenty of people have higher interest rates on their homes from recent purchases than those who’ve purchased homes 4 or 5 years ago, and if you live in a state with higher income tax you’ll have more to deduct. Also self-employed contractors and non-incorporated small business owners are likely going to itemize. My wife and I itemize but we’re fortunate enough to be in a place where we support a lot of charities so itemization is worth it.

“Required” isn’t the right word but they do record who donates to them because people usually want them to. People donating to non-profits will receive statements from those non-profits at year end so they can deduct the donations from their taxes when filing their return.

People can donate anonymously but if they do so, they give up their right to claim the tax deduction so most do not.

Is no place safe for me??

Very much so but it’s the difference in how men and women are treated in a whole range of scenarios at issue here. Feminism specifically tries to address the significance inequity in how women are treated vs men. Just because there are situations where men are at a disadvantage compared to women doesn’t change the fact that overall women suffer far greater disadvantages than men.

Discovering someone supports feminism shouldn’t provoke a “but what about the situations where men are at a disadvantage?!?” reaction

As a guy that was falsely accused of domestic violence and rape, I experienced firsthand the huge difference in how such accusations are viewed. I was assumed guilty, especially by law enforcement, the legal community and friends, neighbors and coworkers I wasn’t close with. It was tough, and embarrassing too.

That said, I fully understand that I was the odd case. Far more women genuinely experience sexual assuault and abuse by men and struggle to get the support they need than men that experience what I did… the difference is orders of magnitude. Just because I experienced some unequal treatment based on my gender doesn’t change the fact that women disproportionately suffer greatly at the hands of men and awareness and change is needed.

My personal experience doesn’t diminish the vastly greater numbers of women that suffer worse.

If they have indeed built communication systems into mundane devices that don’t need it, they’ve done it for a reason.

I’ve long thought this policy will ultimately lead to China going to war and where they once again bring home foreign brides for their soldiers. It’ll make a war with Taiwan palatable for all their young, single, lonely men.

In middle school I rode my bike to school and stopped by a convenience store most days and bought two packs of gum. At school I sold pieces for 10 cents each and selling one pack paid for both, supporting my habit. It wasn’t big money but I felt like a genius.

While a novel idea, a leap month would throw the concept seasons and therefore agriculture off significantly. Relatively predictable seasons and being able to track our place in it with calendars was a great help to agrarian communities, helping them know when to plant and harvest most effectively.

That’s nice in theory but reality is if that were happening and people’s vehicles battery charge started going down while they were plugged in at home, they’d unplug. They plugged it in because they wanted to recharge for later, not because they want to help the grid.

Apparently you missed the part where LG says they plan to weave Copilot throughout WebOs and use it “proactively” to assist users and offer content.

Ignoring the app doesn’t keep the AI from spying on you and your household.

A 386 with no hard drive was crazy even then. My first was an 8088 (though technically a NEC v20) with a 5.25" and a 20 MB hard drive

Thanks for sharing. That makes perfect sense as well.

I always wondered about this actually. Why the two radically different pronunciations of “Kansas” between the two states so close to each other.
