Yesterday I attended the European premiere of Hamelin's piano quintet.
I was enchanted by the first movement and its wonderful sounds. The second and fourth movements were more bombastic, but at some moments it sounded like Hamelin was really playing with three hands. Amazing, and also I enjoyed the other pieces played (by Boulanger, Franck and Dvorak).
Location of the concert was the remarkable Gebläsehalle in Duisburg, concert was organised as part of the Klavierfestival Ruhr. It is an industrial area, also with some formerly-used steel trains parked on the terrain.
