"Despite this dismal success rate, companies are going all-in on AI, driven largely by the belief that everyone else is doing it. Nearly two-thirds of CEOs (64%) say “the risk of falling behind drives them to invest in some technologies before they have a clear understanding of the value they bring to the organization,” according to the study."

The small Gujarati business community in Zambia played a big role in the country's non-violent, Gandhian freedom struggle. Ajay Kamalakaran writes.

"In his book, Kaunda wrote, “A free and independent India was the first and greatest of the nations of the co-called Third World. She was the Mecca or Jerusalem towards which weary freedom fighters on other continents turned for inspiration when things were going badly for them.”"

Great interview of Dr. Alex D. Ketchum is conducted by Hannah Steinkopf-Frank on a v. interesting upcoming book.

"HSF: How did you go about defining what makes a feminist restaurant?

AK: ...I wanted to know why a restaurant would call itself feminist in either its name or in its marketing or publications. That was what was interesting to me because you could have a restaurant run on feminist principles but not call it a feminist restaurant..."

It’s horrible I treat Mastodon like a friend with benefit & turn up here for a fix everytime I break up with Twitter… but here we are again. 😂

@visvak A tragedy in the making. This kind of work has particular usefulness as a teaching tool as well, but academia in India is also in such a compromised and/or impoverished state, I don’t know what resources can be marshalled for such projects. Was crowdfunding just not sustainable?

@Bewickwren Most of the recipes I’ve heard or followed do recommend that long a soak but I was worried the meat would disintegrate if I kept cooking it for another 15-20 minutes which is what the rice needed I think. I learn more with each biryani I make. 🤷🏾‍♀️

@Bewickwren Longer! Soak for at least 2 hours and boil separately until 2/3rds the way cooked so it’s just starting to fluff before layering with the meat.

@Bewickwren Some of the rice was undercooked in my haste—should have done the partial cook but put it in straight after soaking — but the meat was fall-off-the-bone tender so I just need to be diligent about the part-cooked method next time.

Mutton biryani for Thanksgiving this year, less than perfect but thankfully made up by eating it with the perfect people I 💜 in my life.

I teach a class on comedy/humor media, predominantly American & it’s actually had the effect of making me too jaded about contemporary stand-up & sketch comedy. But I don’t know whether it’s his ridiculous charm or the fact that he often has non-American anecdotes, has a new Netflix special that I thought was fun, especially his set on Indian food changing his life.
Haven’t always enjoyed his Indian accent shtick before, but it’s better done & more self-deprecating now. I recommend.

I absolutely love visiting Malleshwaram #flower and vegetable #market during the wee hours (especially on the day of a festival). The stock is fresh and the crowds are minimal.

The way in which #technology has taken over and changed our lives, with groceries delivered with a click of your fingertip, we see fewer and fewer shops in these markets as the years go by. A few of my favourite things about this place are the incessant bargaining, the Kannada banter and the lovely smell of flowers that carries itself through the market. The old world charm of this place is something else and I hope we never lose such places.

Place: Bangalore, India.

For the 1st time in decades, India abstained from a vote seeking the commercial sale of African elephant tusks. This comes after speculation that Namibia allegedly asked for India’s support to withdraw the ivory trade ban in exchange for the 8 cheetahs.

Gained an astonishing amount of followers today and I'm sorry to have to break it to you all my content rarely stays this intellectual -- most of my regular tooting will likely be about Indian pop culture, trashy Bollywood, food photos, & complaining unproductively about academic life. You're being forewarned. 😂
