Solar & evs seem to be a no brainer for just about all farms and homes in remote locations. What, if anything, is anything holding people back - old habits?

The old farm ute is a much loved vehicle but EV-ATVs will eventually replace ICE as the next classic kiwi farm vehicle, imho. So quiet for hunting or conservation. drawn in 2021 for Farmers Weekly newspaper.

Cartoon depicts an 'EV-ATV' (Electric vehicle - all terrain vehicle): 'The next classic kiwi farm vehicle' driven by male and female farmers with a dog & a hay bale on the back. Bullet points: cheaper to run, #8 wire adaptable, durable, fixable, safe, quiet, green, low maintenance. Recycle arrows direct towards smaller drawings of a house, recycling plant and shed. ‘Using tired batteries for home solar storage.’’Battery recycling plants will recycle old into new’ (when built). ‘Great torque, low centre of gravity.’ ‘Charge on the farm.’

Arthur C. Clarke: “Getting information from the internet is like getting a glass of water from the Niagara Falls.” @nzlistenermag

Holy fringe ninjas. for NZListener magazine. ( Refers to revelations of party candidates with fringe beliefs embarrassing mainstream political parties during the election campaign, particularly ACT, NZFirst and National. )

Cartoon depicts a corridor in parliament. A group of politicians are stopped in their tracks by the sight of ninjas clinging to the ceiling. David Seymour looking up comments "Holy fringe ninjas! Extremists are infiltrating mainstream parties". Christopher Luxon comments "Please don't post anything crazy!" Winston Peters throws his hands in the air in gesture akin to surprised surrender. Christopher Hipkins comments "Until after the election." Marama Davidson and Debbie Ngarewa-Packer look alarmed. Refers to revelations of party candidates with fringe beliefs embarrassing mainstream political parties during an election campaign, particularly ACT, NZFirst and National.

There should be a reverse Indiana Jones film where a South American tribe sneaks into the Vatican, steals some relics, and gets away on a boat while a bunch of men in golden robes shake their fists and shout their strange language.

"Worst finance minister in history!"? Luxon's hyperbolic rhetoric reaches ridiculous heights. Are the Nats in competition with Act for most outrageous claim?

Not shown: Cyclone Gabrielle and more... for the Listener, plus the graph which I used as reference.

Cartoon depicts two graphs depicted as piles of cash spent over recent economic history in New Zealand from 2008 to 2023. "Worst finance minister in history!" Chris Luxon accuses Grant Robertson of being responsible for a mound of total crown expenses as a % of GDP around 2021. Signs include Covid, Ukraine, Cost of Living Crisis. He surprises Bill English who sits next to higher pile incurred after the 2008, signes read: GFC, tax cuts, (bailouts), austerity and Christchurch earthquakes. Box: Source Treasury data 1972-2022, PREFU 2023 ) Cartoon was based on a graph: https://twitter.com/labourcartel/status/1700986659435852219?s=46&t=PxHeK1CgZble5h_mErtKVg ( That graph used figures from https://www.treasury.govt.nz/publications/information-release/data-fiscal-time-series-historical-fiscal-indicators ) Crown Expenses as a % of GDP. We all contribute to climate change, but our contributions aren't equal.

💰 The richest 1% produce more than twice the carbon emissions of the poorest 50%.

🌍 People living in countries like Australia, Canada and the US emit over 20x the carbon of those in many low-income countries.

🇺🇸 In the US, 12% consume half the meat and fly two thirds of the miles.

That's why we need system change: so the easiest and most affordable options for everyone are also the best options for people and the planet.
