@jkottke where some parents are “helicopter parents,” I consider myself a “drone strike dad,” totally invisible until some shit like that and then I am become death
Together with @irwin I moderate saturation.social here on mastodon, but mostly I do other stuff between science, technology and culture. I'm poly in math, and mono in marriage.

Things are going great
It's an awesome weekend to not be on twitter, is all I'm saying
@Noupside it’s true — but I’m reading the local feed here and it’s so fucking great, and somehow having somewhere to turn to is very helpful
@mastadmin @felix i am relieved I’m not the only one who met that with a question mark
RT @benedictevans
SVB depositors withdrew $42bn on Thursday. Blockchain solves bank runs because it would take years to handle $42bn of transfers.
I am looking for a paid and professional illustrator for a new project, and one of the illustrators is with a big artist's rep.
I sent output from Midjourney as something to begin the conversation about what we are looking for, stylistically and wrt the overall concept.
This evidently led to a partial handwringing meltdown at the agency.
If the agencies representing illustrators ain't got their heads around this six months in, I don't think it's gonna be better in a year.
@anildash I was reading recently of just how bad Henry Ford was (and this takes a while) and my sense is that the extremist vacuity we see in tech is maybe not that different from those at the top of any other extractive industry along the way.
Honestly, I don't remember how I could have imagined it would be different with these people, but I do remember thinking it was.
@dansinker ok but also do we have to choose
I am curious about what happens when this next round of American religious revivals meets this next round of global respiratory pandemics
This season’s writers deserve a raise. It appears that Brittany Kaiser, of Cambridge Analytica notoriety, has taken a legal shrooms company public this week with Susan Sarandon.
@Noupside @shashashasha I’m just glad to hear it came and left. And also that I beat your high score.
Have some sense of what you’re talking about, but would be interested to see details of what you’re referring to
@Noupside yeah same scenario here; rest of family currently negative.
But didn’t catch the signal until day 4 of symptoms so it’s likely i infected them. We’ll see shortly :(
Yah long haul flights for the biosafety crowd are a drag.
But the stats are that SARS-CoV-2 is present in 96% of flight wastewater samples, and I have measured CO2 at over 1300ppm in the cabin. The math is not good.
@matt ended the run by taking off mask for five minutes in a low-ventilation high-density room of strangers, so I could eat something. That’s all it takes!
@fraying at least we are still in crypto winter, which gives us cool air to fight the flames in the background
After three years of playing the tightest biosafety game of anyone I know, today I learned that I got caught, like 96% of my stupid country.
My high score was three years and two months.
@mejs also I use a Fujifilm XE3 and I love it but also miss heft and weight of 35mm back in the day
