@jotak Specifically, Apple planned to phone home about nude content in the name of protecting minors, but then decided to just warn users (especially kids) an image is porn to make a speedbump for groomers. Google is doing the same thing, so the FUD here is to pretend Google's doing Apple's original bad plan, and therefore is worse than Apple.

2025-02-10

@jotak It's confused FUD.

'Sensitive Content Warnings is an optional feature that blurs images that may contain nudity before viewing, and then prompts with a “speed bump” that contains help-finding resources and options, including to view the content. When the feature is enabled, and an image that may contain nudity is about to be sent or forwarded, it also provides a speed bump to remind users of the risks of sending nude imagery and preventing accidental shares.'

@echo_xc @jack
Image scanning isn't about privacy. They made it blur content that seems graphic, if you opt-in, just like Apple decided to do.

@larsmb @jwalzer
Not only that, it's literally just blurring things that it thinks are graphic on-device, exactly the same as Apple decided to do...

'All of this happens on-device to protect your privacy and keep end-to-end encrypted message content private to only sender and recipient. Sensitive Content Warnings doesn’t allow Google access to the contents of your images, nor does Google know that nudity may have been detected.'

Have a real proper tooter of a My Little Pony gone wrong post, in which Twilight is humiliatingly defeated by her nemesis, stairs. It's a further edit of an edit made by another. #mylittlepony #MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic #my_little_pony #edit

Remember that episode of Make Your Mark where everypony got stinky golden hooves, and challenged their friends to sniff?
Have a little shitpost I made months back.

Sussy hooves amogus Pipp offers her stinky hoof-heart for you to smell.

I made the Ukraine Hitch image a while back, and then a year ago touched it up with a background and such. It feels strange now looking at it and realizing there's little hope Ukraine will win within the next 2 years, and now the statements we make standing by them feel ever more hollow with the recent election of a man who would help Russia win...

A mild touchup of an old work of mine. Zebra with a lasso in front of Mount Kilimanjaro being cheeky.

@Patagium It is something that the terms "crush" and "couple" were actually used, but it gives me this weird feeling that Izzy thinks a "couple" is like, her & Sunny, or Pipp & Zipp, just really good friends instead of anything romantic, like how she said "palentine" at the start.
I'm hoping TYT improves next season, given that the apparent dropoff in views from the movie to the series might make Hasbro loosen up, and maybe then it could actually have any romance for the next H&H Day.

2023-01-26

@Patagium Izzy continues to be the best character of G5, with Zipp not far behind, making this quite a good episode. Very sad however to see the Hearts & Hooves Day episode of all things lacks any hint of romance. I guess the ponies in G5 really do just have friends and reproduce asexually (we've very weirdly not only not seen any significant others, but have yet to see somepony have more than one parent).

@bookcreature 1 seems to stem from tumblr culture, where you'll see someone in a post that says "was sexually assaulted" will have "TW: Sexual assault" before. Those people discover the thing to mark easier than twitter's bad UI, so naively mark every possible trigger...

2 is I think people too used to twitter's short character limits.

@midwesterner Please note, for all the evil he did, being in Hitler Youth was very much not his choice (he and his family hated the Nazis and only did the bare minimum that was mandated of them by Nazi authorities).

2023-01-04

@rockojello516 It makes more sense when you look at Make Your Mark as nothing more than a stretched and less crass form of Tell Your Tale, which itself is just a deweirded and visually upgraded version of Pony Life using G5's setting instead of G4.

@Litrojia Advice: Use hashtags; Mastodon's most lacking feature is that searching by design doesn't do post text (to try to make it harder to harass people by their interests), so if you want your pony stuff found, a bit of #mlp will probably help. The character limit is also significantly longer, so you can generally cram in quite a few.

2023-01-02

@brandendelucht Probably not most. Having total world control means there's no enemy country to deport people to or rally everyone against, which would greatly deflate conservative parties (domestic stuff is possible to use for targeting, but gets messy). Therefore, only a fairly liberal country that's based on ideals of peace and diversity would want world control, and there aren't many such countries.

@Litrojia Fluffy firey boi sure be sittin'.

@mizrobin Well that's good and all, but there's a lot more pressing things wrong with our electoral system messing with its ability to reflect the will of the people and/or what's best for society, like how having to register to vote is an undue burden that was put in place to reduce the likelihood of immigrant families voting, or how employers not letting people off work to vote makes it harder for candidates who appeal to the working class to succeed. The latter is within Biden's power to fix.

2022-12-30

@mizrobin The electoral college only occasionally matters (red states aren't going to vote blue just because the EC is gone), is constitutionally rooted (you literally need a constitutional amendment to get rid of it...), and has complexities in perception (many red states like it being around). Altogether, it's a terrible target to spend political energy on, as it'd likely go nowhere while energizing Republican voters to push back.

2022-12-30

@mizrobin I wouldn't ascribe them being quiet to Kanye. I believe their behavior tends to be based around providing a certain level of constant pressure in public spaces, and with how much Elon and his buddies are putting out, and the midterm elections over, they feel like they can relax for now and just collect information to prepare later pushes.

@spaceflight It's worth noting here that the Space Shuttle was supposed to launch a lot more than 3 times a year, and at a much lower cost. The practical reality is that NASA has been treated as a low-priority jobs program by Congress all the way back to the end of the Apollo program. It's a surprise the "Senate Launch System"/"Rocket to Nowhere" even launched at all, given its many predecessors being regularly scrapped so billions of dollars could go back into R&D.
