I grew up in an observant (devout?) Muslim household. When I questioned my faith, my folks didn't ban books. They encouraged me to read books by Muslims AND non-Muslims—Christian, Jewish, atheist, or other. It was life changing. And it's a message I'm passing on to my children now, and one I hope they pass to their children when the time comes.

Parents: Trust your kids. Ban ignorance—not books.

@thetitanborn We live in Madrid, Spain, and maybe half the people disregard the public transport masking mandate depending on the time of day. For us, it's unthinkable to enter a public bldg unmasked. Weather permitting, my wife and I eat outdoors or dine at home. Our windows are always open when we have visitors. We don't foresee any change shortly—no big deal.

I've just learned the term #freudenfreude ( the enjoyment of another's success ) and I feel it embodies the spirit of #mastodon as opposed to the #birdsite where schadenfreude increasingly appears to be the driver of speech.
