A local Norwegian fediverse superhero took matters into his own hands.

Literally.

A large amount of posters were removed and trashed. One newspaper did coverage of this, linking to the persons mastodon post.

This is regarded vandalism, police is looking into the case, and exactly what the result will be is unknown.

Democracy is a fragile thing, we know that. Money buys influence and the power that comes with it, and laws that prevents foreign capital to buy political influence are WAY more important than laws against removing posters from those that ignore these laws.

Norway is a small country, and we even share a small border with Russia. To not help a country under attack is the worst investment ever for us.

Russia has a keen interest in our northern ports, and the US is less keen on protecting their former allies, and more keen on grabbing from them (Greenland).

And this potentially desperate act from Russia shows that we matter.

For "international viewers", a "fun" thing happened in #Norway a few days ago, spanning 17th of may, our "Constitution Day" (a day Norwegians tend to take very seriously)

A brand new political party apparently popped up. "Peace and Fairness", and in fairness it is not new, it was founded a couple of years ago, but until that point, very few was aware it exited.

But then, ad banners. Seemingly every available ad slot on the subway carriages in Oslo were decorated with the message that Norway should NOT be spending millions to support Ukraine, the war should be solved with peace negotiations, and we could get "free public transport" for a fraction of what was spent on war.

Exactly how one peace negotiate with someone that does not want to, seems irrelevant.

This adcampain costed a lot. The party has registered 50.000kr in donations. Where they got the 1.4 million to pay for this, well, they refuse to tell.

Trying to help an old relative in the US who is struggling with the cost of everything going up, and now they risk losing internet.

Trying to check alternatives and whatnot, I have a hard time wrapping my brain around prices and setup in the US. I was thinking "Ok, so if they get a better cellphone subscription, they may not need internet in addition, just use hotspot".

We pay like US$40 pr month for cellphone + extra simcard + 1Tb of data. It near removes the need for an "normal" internet connection.

Given that Norway has some of the highest prices for cellphone subscription in Europe, I thought, surely, there must be something like this, if not even better, in the US.

Seems I was wrong about that.

"Get 30Gb, with 5Gb hotspot use!!"

... I thought the beauty of having free capitalism with horrible public healthcare, no labor rights etc, would at least be "cheaper stuff".

Can't even blame Trump for this shit.

Brand aware shopping is drastically increased.

This is not about "feeling better by not giving money to the greedy companies", this is "survival mode".

Money saved will go to FOSS / Indie projects, specially queer run ones. Again, not to "feel better about myself", this benefits me as well.

The more people are safe, the safer I am.

We cannot fight the far right without seing the gateway that the unfairness that bad distribution of wealth creates.

We cannot fight the far right without realizing what the continious preassure to be successful, and the result of failing, or even the fear of failing, creates.

We create teams, teams of people like ourselves, and we play the money game with these teams, because that strengthen our chances.

I am gonna repeat this over and over and over. If you are scared of fascism, vote for solidaric wealth distribution. Vote for politics that gives people the safety that should they fail, they will be ok.

Vote for a less competitive capitalistic drive, where it is ok to realax. Ok to let your guard down. Safe to be yourself.

We are pushed into black vs white, straight vs queer, men vs women teams, we are told to be less racist, less homophobic, etc, but, somehow to hord wealth, to oppress by the size of your bank account, is neveer questioned, in fact, it is "wrong" to question.

We need to.

Vote left.

In the battle against #nazis #fascists and other bad people, we have to face some uncomfortable truths. Bad people are generally bad for a reason, and unless we isolate that reason. we are NEVER going to fight the far right. Norwegians are not that "genetically different" from people in the US, yet we seem less likely to vote for fasicsts than those that migrated over to the US.

"I am glad we moved to Norway" our son told us at one point, "I would probably have not been a very good person had I grown up there".

It's a self awareness that seem rare, because we are so often set at pointing at bad people as people that just "are that way" no matter what. But look to Germany. Why are far right #AfD strong, in former east German areas?

Is it right of wealthy people in the former west to point to people in less wealth privileged areas and say "you are bad!". And not realize that they would probably also have been, had they been there.

In the fight against #Trump, I miss this retrospective.
