@ShawnRS I'm sure the city is concerned about liability should someone get hurt. We simply need better snow clearing on bike paths.

A strange scene here in #winnipeg. Volunteers have been organizing to clear bike lanes of snow and ice. The city has asked them to stop and has raised the possibility of fines if they continue.

There's details in what constitutes a cleared lane and how recent warmer weather has affected the consistency of the snow/ice. But why would any city want to stop volunteers from doing the work for free, improving their neighbourhood for free? That doesn't make sense to me.

I’ve been spending a lot of time with a friend who just arrived this week from Ukraine, and her first shock is she doesn’t think Canadians dress properly for the weather. “Melissa, today I do not wear hat, like Canadian woman” was day two. “Melissa, see that man, no coat!” Today it was +3 and she audibly gasped when she saw a toddler in a stroller in ski pants and a couple layers of thermals with a coat off, I had to reassure her the parents didn’t need to be charged

While following a lot of people can populate your Home feed significantly, sometimes people (like me) end up boosting a lot and that can unexpectedly hinder your own experience.

So if you like someone's specific posts and don't want to follow their boosts, you can go to their profile under the [...] button, and select the "Hide boosts from account" button.

There is no algorithm on Mastodon. You have ownership and control over every filtering decision instead of some robot.
