That said, there's probably plenty of stuff not quite as digital as this from a decade or two earlier. Maybe it just slipped unfortunately between its times

This has a plunderphonics type vibe, reminds me of a few 00's bands that did some similar stuff with found sounds.
I think Frank Klepacki used the same bass sound on the original Command and Conquer soundtrack
