A programmer working in gamedev, ex-Shadowrunner (cybersec Red Teamer), hobbyist game developer, goth/darkwave DJ and a professional poser from Prague.

I've just finished my longest running college homework - make a game in one semester.

We made one, and then continued working on it in our free time.

Six years of active work later, it's finally released ^^

A hand drawn local coop top down shooter, about robots that are breaking apart. The two hour short story is perfect for one evening with your buddy, beer and pizza.

If anyone's interested, here is it. store.steampowered.com/app/117

Being told, two days before release, by our visual artist that he has been having performance problems with our game to the point where it's unplayable for the past two years, and asked if "I can optimize it tommorow", is awesome...

Like, couldn't you mention it sooner?

@eniko Aren't integers just bytes living together? Or are bytes also padded to 32bits?

Anyone has some cool recommendations/finds from Steam Next Fest?

So far I've really enjoyed Wildgate, a Guns of Icarus/Sea of Thieves/Overwatch/Battle Royal combo, that is polished and has a great charm. Exactly my kind of a game.

I've also enjoyed Xenopurge, a aliens-style auto-battler, where you watch a screen with your units to which you can only give vague commands. It's pretty similar to Duskers, which I love.

@EvilCartyen @ludicity On one hand I agree. On the other, as someone from the first generation that grew up with phones and social networks, it's extremely fucked up.

I spend last 10 years trying to fix it, both through lifestyle changes, avoiding social networks and professional help, and I'm still struggling with it a lot.

I'm not trying to make excuses, just pointing out that the Big Tech is really successfull at long-term fucking people up for their benefit. And AI will make it even worse.

We're looking for an alternative meeting/video conferencing software to replace Discord, for our LARP-organizing group. We only used it for the group calls, and need something where you can react with emojis, and something that has at least some semblance of privacy (so probably not Zoom/Teams).

Anyone has recommendations?

@EvilCartyen @ludicity I think it's a combination of low frustration tolerance and attention span. Thinking/reading does take some effort and focus, and doesn't really give you the dopamine hit of randomly trying things - which you also get if the thing you are trying doesn't work, since it is a surprise wheter it will work or not, and surprises are dopamine hits even if negative.

Also, most people tab out from a video longer than 15 seconds.

wrote a little shader pipeline to form platonic solids based on fundamental waveform input (first video)

do y'all know of any previous work or reading material on concepts similar to this?
i feel like someone smarter than me must have a paper on something related to Fourier transforms / Cymatics, signal analysis in general, hell even information theory

The main developer is zyte.com/

"Zyte API detects and bypasses blocks in real time, routing requests through the most efficient path without manual tuning. Keep those scrapers flying."

Fantastic.

"Featuring music from DEVO, Roxy Music, Lush, The Smashing Pumpkins, Iggy Pop, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Joy Division, the Cure and many more."

I'm sold, that's a really good selection. Nice to see some OG goth somewhere. And I like the wibes.

When making a demo for your game, make sure that you're not checking if the Steam user owns the main app.

We did that, quit the game if he didn't, and it took few days before we caught onto it. Since all of us had the main game, it never popped up during testing, so keep that in mind - demo has a different app id.

Anyway, our demo is fixed now, hopefully!

@psychicparrot42 Unfortunately, as far as I know it's more of an issue of consoles being extremely NDA-hell to develop for, so even if I'm sure that a FOSS support for Godot on consoles could reasonably happen, you simply can't because all of the relevant console API and libraries are under heavy and enforced NDAs you sign when you get access to it.

That's why there's the "talk to someone to port it", since they need to have a working NDA. So, it's more of a Sony/MS/Nintendo's fault.

@havchr I kind of like the idea I've seen from CCP Games, where they were making a blockchain MMO that allows you to make stuff ingame by writing smart contracts.

The advantage is that since the whole game rules and servers live on the blockchain, it's awesome for perservation, since they can't really shut it down, and the game is actually just a frontend that can be replaced.

It's none of the crypto bullshit, just an IMO potentially cool use of the tech. Not sure how it's going, though.

@tg9541 I think noyb.eu/en is challenging them in court, as they are succesfully wont to do for the past few years.

It's one of the few non-profits I regularly support, and I recommend doing the same. You can support them for whatever amount you want, and with the 60$ a year tier you even get a one hour long consultation about your personal privacy rights problem, should you need it!

At Game Acess, if you're by chance at the event, come see the game we're releasing after 6 years of work in our free time ^^.
