@mxfraud
I have been using Affinity Publisher for my page layouts. It does floating text boxes, layers, images, etc. I recently used it to design a card game so it has some light merge capabilities. You can get it pretty cheaply. If you are also doing image manipulation their photo replaces Photoshop and designer replaces illustrator and inkscape. I haven't used the Affinity 2 versions but I plan on upgrading after a few more products.

I ran into my first issue with most rolls succeed with a perk or complication, defenses. When the players roll their defenses I want 4 states, avoid with perk, avoid, take damage, or take double damage.
But every other roll in the system is succeed with a perk, succeed, succeed with a complication, and fail with a complication. How can I phrase "you succeeded in avoiding being hit, but you still took some damage, not as much as you could have taken, but still some."

@the_Effekt
A corrupt democracy has the possibility of reform. A benevolent king (arguably has never been one) is a heartbeat away from a tyrant.

@kensanata Sounds fine. Honestly as long as you are in the same tier as everyone else you should be fine. And the basic races/classes/backgrounds are all from the PHB. The basic rules don't include feats, but less than 1/5th of my characters, or characters in games I run, have feats. Even racial ability adjustments are not a big optimizer if you are using the standard array. And anyone who turns their nose up at the "build efficiency" of a Life Cleric or Evoker is an idiot.

@Yoric It is for 5e D&D, but the concepts work for most any fantasy system with spell casters. Definitely all the D&Ds, even OSR with some tweaking of the power level since I rely on 5e tiers.

I have put up an excerpted sample that gives some examples of enhanced arcane focuses, as well as the 1/3rd of the book that walks through teasing out the themes of a character and how an item can tie into those themes and encourage/reward behavior of your players.

It is finally here. My first Supplement went live this morning!

Enhanced Focuses is a new type of magic item that enhances your spell casting and class abilities. As well as advice on making any magic item more than just a bonus on the character sheet, but a part of a character's story. #dnd #dmsguild dmsguild.com/product/258295/En

@Miru
You might want to check out Oh No Ross and Carrie. They infiltrate various organizations and report on what goes on inside them. They gave a well developed process and ethic for it. Also, they are very funny. ohnopodcast.com/

@artisticfennec I also once borrowed the deployment method from Noen (less than good anime) for a Githyanki Astral Galleon to basically bungee jump troops from the astral plane onto the Prime material plane. Then pull them back through if they got in trouble or finished their mission.

@artisticfennec I recently used Githzerai in a game. I had them have a pagoda in Limbo that dozens of Githzerai worked together to move with their minds. And they later used the Tao Pai Pai method for getting troops onto a Illithid Nautilus.

I am getting ready to publish my first supplement. If anyone could look at the ad copy for my supplement and give me any comments, pointers, or suggestions I would really appreciate it. I am not sure it gets the point across or is sufficiently enticing.

@kinosocial It inspired also Wintergatan to create the marble machine. youtu.be/IvUU8joBb1Q
And his ongoing series detailing the creation of the Machine X has been fascinating to watch.

@jskellogg Yes, publish under a name cross sites. Hopefully customers will seek out your other stuff in DMsGuild if they like your stuff elsewhere and vice versa. Be careful about branding. You can't put your logo on the front cover, but if you come up with a consistent style it can work as a logo. It is one of the reasons I payed for the custom book cover background. I plan on using it on all my 5e stuff, in and out of DMs Guild.

@Csalzman @jskellogg Yeah, unfortunately DMs guild only lets you sent links to pages on DMsGuild to your customers. Other than plastering your PDF with links to your site and trying to build a community that will give feedback there you are SOL. Same for all RPGNow sites.

@jskellogg These are the 3 things I have been constantly asking myself these last 3 weeks as I prepare to publish my first supplement.

Tyson of the NorthwestTyson_NW@tabletop.social
2018-10-19

@jskellogg As a DM how does the supplement help? Does it make my life easier by providing something I can bring to the table and hook into my game seamlessly. Can it do it without introducing a new system or mechanic I have to learn? Does it give me things I can use to hook my players into the story?

Tyson of the NorthwestTyson_NW@tabletop.social

@jskellogg Second I would look at the content. As a player how much is this content worth to me? If it is one potential character that might fit a concept I have with dubious balance and may be vetoed by my DM, unless it really speaks to me I am going to pass it by. But if it is a few options that could all tie into that concept, say a Barbarian, Ranger, Rogue, and Sorcerer archetype that does fun stuff with movement & fits the "Zoomer" theme I would be far more interested.
