@dan I'm sorry this is happening to you. There should be a hotline to call or something.

I need to figure out where to find or create joy in tech again so I don't need to make memes like this one.

Meme with the top half showing Padme from Star Wars Episode III crying in anguish on Mustafar. Padme is labeled as "me" and is saying, "You're going to a place I can't follow. You're breaking my heart!" The bottom half of the meme shows an unmoved, stone-faced Anakin saying nothing, labeled as "tech industry."

Ever since iOS 7 I can't watch Apple's design videos without thinking they are built from a completely incorrect starting premise and goals.

"UI gets out of the way of your content"
"hides when not needed"
"only appears when the user needs them"

The details hardly matter when listening it feels like all of this has completely the wrong goals from the start.

So can you still turn Apple Intelligence completely off in *OS 26?

1) Apple *is* an accessibility leader. That doesn't mean that every choice they make is good. It doesn't mean that they get a pass when they mess up.

2) Options to make designs more accessible are great, but they often make things clunky/ugly.

3) Many users will never dive into accessibility settings even though they would benefit from doing so. Default accessibility should always be a high priority in any design language because it will benefit the most users.

New introvert strat for working in the office just dropped

A social media post that reads “A guy joined my office six months ago, and within
a week, he texted me asking for some money. I
found it very weird and later learned from some
colleagues that he had texted them as well.
Because of this, we started avoiding him in the
office and stopped inviting him to office parties.
Today, I met him at a bike club, and he had a
Harley-Davidson. We talked for a while, and I
jokingly asked him, "Bro, why do you need udhar
when you can afford a Harley?" He replied that he
didn't really need the money. He's an introvert
and doesn't like talking to people. Asking for
money from colleagues makes them avoid him in
the office.”

Yup.

love how basically every study says that students do better in school with less homework & later start times and workers do better with more vacation days & shorter shifts, but we do the exact opposite in this godforsaken country because Puritanical feelings apparently beat facts

As wildfires rage and “razor blade throat” Covid spreads, it’s important to wear a well fitted respirator.

Even if you’re over covid. Even if you trust your immune system. Even if you’re back to “normal”.

The pandemic is ongoing. The fires are toxic to your health.

If you’ve ever wondered how to choose a respirator, where to buy and how to fit test… I’ve got you covered!
