Paper meets electronics and fun!
I share DIY projects for teachers and parents who want to get creative with kids using paper, conductive tape and simple electronics.

@root42 nice!
@bkahn I once thought about trying a recipe that had similar issues like this origami instruction with confusing step order and repetitive tasks that don't make sense in that order. Like cutting vegtables and then washing them to cut them again afterwards. π
@nachdemsturm haha yeah, definitly the easiest part of the instructions.
I recommend you take some inspiration from step 10 to understand how to get from 12 to 12
@caroona definitely! This was just a quick test.... The ones on the pinterest wall my post is linking to are a bit more convincing.
@ajax it's funny how it gets the generell idea of the numbering but just can't get it right.
Just realised that these instructional images are also a good example of the limitations of AI. While AI can generate a great instructional image it will probably never understand the limitations of folding a sheet of paper.
@ajax definitely the most fun and obvious AI litimation :-)
Let me introduce you to the hilarious world of AI-generated origami art instructions. These instructions are impossible to follow, often with incorrect step numbering. While it's entertaining, its a perfect example of the challenges real (origami) artists face now, as they have to compete with these AI-generated fakes.
The pictures below were generated by me. I have a Pinterest board of the most hilarious examples I found if you want a good laugh: https://pin.it/38pSNWSp3

@iris great idea to use a bookmark as on/off. The slide switch is a bit tricky. I want to add instructions for a reed switch mechanism. That would probably be more reliable.
@iris one more thing: the upside of copper tape is that you can solder to it!
@iris hey! Thanks for sharing your experience. It aligns pretty much with my experiences. Copper tape does not make good connections. Especially the standard copper tape with non-conductive adhesive.
Also I can not find translucent paper that is nice to fold. Its always too sturdy and/or breaks. Or to flimsy to print on.
Anyway! Your book lamp turned out well and I really like the recycled book cover!
I should have done this a long time ago, but I only had wool yarn on hand. This bamboo sock yarn is perfect for the purpose. And it doesn't matter if my dyed hair stains them pink!
I have half a mind to decorate the top of the headphones with the same yarn, but I don't know what motif... My embroidery skills are limited. Anyone have ideas? #visiblemending #repaircafe

Paper circuit and reed switch π€©
This little display stand is an experimental prototype inspired by having made some tiny rechargeable lights. Lit from below, the 1-inch acrylic cube transmits the light to provide under-lighting for whatever sits on top of it. This could likely be done better with a custom circuit board with surface mount LEDs, but this was a fun way to make a quick one-off prototype without fabricating boards.
@Lydie thanks! I need to try that next π much more control
