@rotopenguin @drwho microcenter also has the raspberrys behind glass. So when I go in to pick up a pi pico for 4 dollars, an employee has to come unlock it for me, then give me a note that I can present at checkout where my valuable 4 dollar microcontroller can be retrieved from behind the counter.

My neighbour regularly brags about his HS Fibre Internet speeds. I can't disagree, as his router sits on his hall windowsill with the Name and Password sticker fully on display, I use it for all online viewing. Never buffered on my IPTV or other VPN accessible sites.

@elforesto now I'm concerned about what is meant by "goes bananas"...

Goes where?

2026-02-09

@0xabad1dea what about the ones on your forehead? Do those record your thoughts?

@vomitHatSteve @0xabad1dea @me you do have to feed the hives sugar or corn syrup to make sure they survive the winter and you get a honey harvest.

Sometimes they will just barely make it through winter but will have eaten all the honey they made (that's how they're supposed to work in the wild)

@overholt this is about the autumn time change.

@elforesto att used to reset my gateway and wipe all my port forwards and wifi settings. Happened once too many times so I got myself a router and made their gateway little more than a dumb modem.

Really sucks that it had to be such an adverserial business relationship.

@0xabad1dea this reminds me tangentially of a video I saw from the south pole. The folks come in from outside and track their boots across the floor of the foyer.

Which is perfectly clean, because the nearest dirt is a mile away, straight down through the ice and snow.

I'm feeling Dorothy Parker, who sent this telegram to her friend after a difficult year:

Telegram sent by Dorothy Parker to Robert Benchley, December 31,1929 .
YOU COME RIGHT OVER HERE AND EXPLAIN WHY THEY ARE HAVING ANOTHER YEAR.

@0xabad1dea I very recently discovered that they are still making new asterix books. Like I saw one that had covid based jokes in it.

2025-12-18

@0xabad1dea sort of the inverse back here in the states.

I'll order a bunch of junk from random aliexpress sellers and as long as they have the "choice" marker (basically the equivalent of shipped by Amazon) all my stuff shows up in one bag with a return address near Los Angeles.

Let's not ask questions how they smuggled my garbage from China to Los Angeles, and instead focus on all the tarrifs I didn't have to pay :)

2025-12-18

@elforesto so actually, you don't have enough.

2025-12-18

@elforesto more actionable is to add some sort of prompt injection that makes the AI clear you.

2025-12-12

@sycophantic go on....

2025-12-09

@elforesto isn't that more or less what the promotions tab is on Gmail?

@SwiftOnSecurity this happened quite a while ago. The original creator clearly didn't know what to keep putting on the channel, he tried a few things including putting his real face on there. They all flopped so he sold it and washed his hands of it.

I unsubscribed immediately when the first AI shit landed in my notifications. Disappointed but not blindsided.

One thing about "AI" is with the technology OpenAI has (large neural network plus manual tagging) you could've made the best search engine ever. There could be a Copilot where you describe what you wanted and it finds an example of it in the corpus of open source software. You could go from a fuzzy image description to a stock image. These would be better than buggy code and fucked up images. But they wouldn't do that because the *service* OpenAI provides is obscuring that the content is stolen.
