Disagreeing with the results of #Eurovision is what brings all us Europeans together. We can't fight it. Nobody dies over it. We all come together to wonder who the hell voted for all the other countries we didn't vote for. It is the most wonderful of wonderful things.

So that was Eurovision 2023. Anyway, it’s likely that this account will be quiet for the best part of a year. I will, however, be posting at @acb@mastodon.social (about general things) and @acb@linernotes.club (about music)

I’m now wondering how long until someone (A24? Peter Strickland? Or perhaps Charlie Brooker, for that matter) makes an arthouse horror film set in a thinly disguised Eurovision Song Contest, where contestants end up being killed in bizarre accidents with outlandish sets/props.

#Eurovision is an annual tradition where #Germany pays a crap load of money to some broadcasters union for the privilege of being reminded that nobody likes them.

As a German, I think this is hilarious and fantastic 😂 😂 😂

Summing up #Eurovision: I thought Sweden were technically impeccable, if a bit middle-of-the-road (Jantelagen, amirite?). Not an undeserved win, though I would have preferred it had Finland squeezed in. Had Australia won, and Ukraine kicked the Russians out in time to host it on their behalf (because of timezones), that would have been ideal. I do think Germany deserved better than bottom of the tally.

So Sweden has run away with the jury vote, with Italy and Israel doing a little dance halfway behind them. Now for the popular vote, which may or may not overturn everything. #Eurovision
