@jbqueru ears was a 2nd degree for me and as painful as it was, feet posed more practical problems. Socks or shoes of any kind were uncomfortable for a while

@jbqueru oof. The two worst places I've ever been sunburned were the tops of my feet and the tips of my ears. Both get deliberate sunscreen now

@gakisstylianos @zsmb13 nah, nothing so purposeful. No regrets, just a different person wrote it

@scrubskip I feel a little jealous, all I get is wrong item swaps like a DVD instead of a Blu-ray

@jorge the same is true for suspending lambda arguments to suspend functions for all of the same reasons 😁

My dad was a child refugee in Nazi-occupied France from age 7-10 before immigrating to the U.S. I'm grateful for the kindness, generosity and courage of all those who helped him and enabled our family's survival.

Today, World Refugee Day, millions of people are striving to reach safe haven. Whatever your religion, ethnicity, nationality, or politics, the experience of being a refugee is universal. Let's greet them with empathy, kindness and generosity. They're not the other. They are us.

Franz Mechner (my dad) and his father, Dr. Adolf Mechner, in Paris, October 1938, shortly after they left Austria.

@futurebird @irenes I could swear I've heard some variant of this one before

@lehtimaeki over here the kids just had a whole week off for US thanksgiving and I'm feeling this. Somewhat counterintuitively, the more you get out and about with structured activities the easier it gets and the more relaxing it is

@exallium re. grinders, when I got the espresso machine before I also got a Baratza Vario that has been going strong to this day. I use it for pourover now but it also is fantastic for espresso

2023-11-19

@exallium I had a Breville dual boiler for a couple years until a collar inside the group head cracked from wear. (Daily use.) About a month after it came back from a depot repair for a few hundred (US) dollars, the pressure gauge stopped working. I gave up on it out of frustration.

@futurebird @neckspike glad to help! Unfortunately the reports say the damage is permanent even after upgrading past to a fixed version :-/

2023-09-25

@futurebird @neckspike my right earbud stopped holding a charge for more than about 30m, apparently this was the result of a buggy firmware update (reddit.com/r/SonyHeadphones/co)

2023-09-22

@lehtimaeki the default system behavior was changed a few versions ago to treat back at the root activity of a task identically to home, so the activity won't finish but you'll return to the launcher

@billjings @ralf this is also why finally+withContext(NonCancellable) works for certain kinds of suspending-required cleanup
