@timixretroplays sure, Panasonic sell a set of adapters so you can power everything with AA eneloops.

When Australia Post screw up, they do it properly. A parcel sent to NSW has now made the Bayswater VIC-> Sunshine VIC -> Chullora NSW round trip 4 times. And nothing can be done because it “is not late”.

@tubetime might be simpler to get a modern optical sensor, point it a the base of the ball and convert that output. Also likely better response.

@Drwave @verge you have to check other sources to see if it’s really a deal but sure, sometimes a 70% off is genuine and a thing you need.

@TAV @Roofhare @WTL I have been told they should be used to cover a hot drink too, warms them up.

I’m still making a record player. I have a length of carbon fibre rod for a tone arm & a cartridge to put on it. I have to make a bearing for the arm pivot but have lots of suitable small bearings. The motor is an interesting problem, so many just use an AC synchronous motor but I have a lot of brushless motors to use… the hall sensors reporting rpm seem to work well so it might end up as PID control of BLDC.

Building a record player… it’s basically 3 problems: rotating a disc, putting a needle on it, getting the sound to an amp. Perfect challenge for someone into mechatronics! Of course I will uncover more problems as I go. Beginning this project from a position of ignorance either means I will find interesting solutions nobody thought of, or make the same mistakes as millions of others - probably more of the latter.

@Drwave that is a very cool outfit!

@grumpygamer “I'm not sorry. And I'll not apologize. And I'd as soon go to Dublin as to hell.” I loved it!

So this thing at the front left of a Mazda 3, just to the right of the yellow-capped wiper reservoir, should there be a cap on this? Because there wasn’t.

Front left view of an open Mazda 3 engine bay. Reservoir next to wiper reservoir has no cap???

@ottaross When I read “whomp whomp” I always think of the quiz show “you’re wrong!” sound. Sad trombone is 4 tones… m.youtube.com/watch?v=CQeezCdF

@jasongorman Only the very best teams have a developer over 50 (says a developer over 50). I do think the developers that accept that macOS Settings should take seconds to load on a M4 Max lack valuable experience.

How does Apple pick “Essential Albums” - is there a critic that picks them? Is it highest sales, or plays, or nicest cover art? Whichever it’s a worthless waste of screen area to duplicate just a couple of albums immediately above the full list. What are you telling me when the album I want to play is not “Essential”? Just show Albums!
