Convincing. A must-read. However, as someone who worked for a long time trying to convince governments to do things they didn't want to do, I'm not sure humanity's leaders will address the issue before it's too late.

“When there is no longer any place to talk to each other, politics becomes a face-off between the isolated individual and the grand narratives of the media – and in this face-off, discourses that offer simple answers have a structural advantage,” the study adds.

"Slovakia’s prime minister told EU leaders at a summit last week that a meeting with Trump left him shocked by the US president’s state of mind, five European diplomats briefed on the conversation said.
Robert Fico, one of the few EU leaders to frequently support Trump’s stance on Europe’s weaknesses, was concerned about the US president’s 'psychological state,' two of the diplomats said. Fico used the word 'dangerous' to describe how the US president came across..."

@andrewstroehlein ... Minnesotans have found and loved one another in a world atomized by social media, where empty men have tried to fill their lonely soul with lies about their own inherent superiority. Minnesotans have preserved everything worthwhile about 'Western civilization,' while armed brutes try to tear it down by force." 2/2

@andrewstroehlein "The secret fear of the morally depraved is that virtue is actually common, and that they’re the ones who are alone. In Minnesota, all of the ideological cornerstones of MAGA have been proved false at once. Minnesotans, not the armed thugs of ICE and the Border Patrol, are brave. Minnesotans have shown that their community is socially cohesive—because of its diversity and not in spite of it. 1/2

This is honestly the best thing I have read about the US in months. We look from abroad and wonder where the hope is. Read this. Now.

Today is International Holocaust Remembrance Day. On this day last year, I wrote this for Human Rights Watch. Seems even more relevant today.

Last week, at the US presidential inauguration, Elon Musk gave a Nazi-style salute. Twice. Neo-Nazi groups and other white supremacists in the US and elsewhere celebrated it as a clear sign of support for white supremacist ideology. Particularly in the context of his repeated public backing of far-right parties, it's hard to see the gesture as anything else. Afterwards, Musk - the richest man in the world and now head of the new US Department of Government Efficiency, established by Trump, himself known for pushing white supremacist ideology - tried to say that what everyone saw wasn't what everyone saw. A quote from George Orwell's 1984 seems appropriate here: "The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command."

Sure, let's ask the Trump regime's murderous masked thugs to come over to Europe and "help with security" - wtf?

Trump regime thugs are murdering people in the streets, kidnapping children, and sending people to be tortured.

While that's all happening, it may be easy to miss this: the regime is also shredding the idea of privacy.

They use nazi-style slogans.

They wear nazi-style coats.

They make nazi-style salutes.

The Trump regime has no new ideas. They only know how to imitate past mass murderers - in words and in actions.

Every American owes a huge debt of gratitude to the brave people in Minnesota who are risking their lives to video the horrific crimes of masked thugs under Trump's vicious regime.

All of us who are not there should be sharing their recorded truth about these crimes and doing whatever we can to see that this reign of terror ends, and the perpetrators are brought to justice.
