@karlauerbach thanks for the details. It’s interesting stuff. I’m always fascinated to learn about the kinds of systems and infrastructure that I had (previously) taken for granted or not thought about at all.

@karlauerbach you’re absolutely right; this was just one corner of the cabin (sorry, I’m ignorant of the terminology. Is it called cabin? Cockpit? Engineer’s chamber?)
I’d never really thought about the complexity of steam power. I’d just assumed on the pressure side there’d be an escape valve to prevent explosion, but I never considered water levels, or even how that escape valve would be set.

Another day, another complicated issue tracked back to confusion between diaeresis and diuresis.

Struggling all week (and last week) with coding problems. This bespoke document management system has grown organically over 18 years, and is fiendishly complicated. My aging brain isn’t keeping up.

@idzie if I go back to California, I should try taking video of it. The black-headed phoebes really like that garden, and even nested in an angled support for our roof gutter drain.

@littlemiao i recently learned that a lot of plants I called dandelions were actually other things like sow thistle, flatweed, and autumn hawkbit. Now I feel like I need to count seeds from them too. And maybe dandelions from several different fields, just to calibrate…

From this, I conclude that there are a *whole bunch* of dandelion seeds.

I started to wonder just how many seeds that represented. So I counted a few. One puffball had 78 seeds, one had 84, and another had 109.

Dandelion season has been spectacular here in Montreal. All the parks and green spaces have been full of them.
