Increasingly people moving off Twitter again. So I figured out how to use the federation bridge to Bluesky, but apparently if a Bluesky person isn't following the "bridg.gy" account as well, it won't work. I'm guessing its existence isn't well publicized (or a checkable option or whatever) because the vast majority don't follow it.

Trump obviously isn't well, so how long after a cabinet is installed before Vance 25As himself into the office? I'd have guessed before Trump can insist on tariffs; but if Musk winds up in control, he's stated he *wants* to collapse the economy then rebuild on a bitcoin base.

Wish I wasn't this close to Medicare age. Tough future ahead, no way around it.

Finally they grabbed last week's leaves! But they pushed a bunch back up into my yard in the process. I'll deal with those and the other half of my neighbor's yard if/when it ever stops raining.

The guy on the other side would do that half along with his yard, but he passed away a few years ago. I've never asked if she's noticed her leaves magically vanish each year.

Early voting back in Indiana would involve standing under flickering fluorescents in a narrow, white-washed corridor in the basement of the county courthouse (one of those 1800s limestone edifices). Voting was individual only, at a grilled window in a tiny office off the end. Everyone in line would have to shift and flatten against the wall to make room whenever someone left. I enjoyed the horror movie ambience.

I live near the local poll but haven't loved getting blown away and/or drenched in general election lines. I went for Michigan's new(ish) early voting option. Here it means driving to the next town; I gave it a few days then trundled over before ten.

Wow, a lot of people! So I still had to stand in line, lol. Someone grabbed my spot as soon as I pulled out, too. Honestly, Michigan should have had this long ago.

I put this out. A week or so later neighborhood yards sprouted multiple little Trump signs. I guess it got noticed. :blobcathearts:

Right-side neighbor has been setting up an enormous dog pen in the little side yard.

Previously: Left-side neighbor threatened to call the cops after the dog went after her grandkid. Back-side family's kiddo no longer plays in their backyard. A tense situation for everyone in this vicinity.

Thing is, they'd finally tied a leash by their steps -- but they often didn't use it, hence issues. Guess we'll see if they actually use this new thing.

My sister has been doing her migratory summer teaching thing. Previously she was in Ohio. Then Pennsylvania. And now Rhode Island. I'd thought she was road-tripping in the Rialta, but she told me today she'd left it with the keys for my brothers to use.

Uh huh. They hate camping. I doubt it'll be gaining much mileage.

So irritating. The NYT and its media pals are once again attempting to impose their will on the Democratic party. They try to grab the wheel with every presidential election, and they invariably yank it in the wrong direction. The previous round was only a few years ago. Folks really do have short memories.

Screenshot of Binyamin Appelbaum of the NYT accusing Pete Buttigieg of committing recherchรฉ grocery crimes in Canada, among other things. It became a Twitter meme ("So, Mr. Bond . . ."); per rumor, this meme was tacked on a bulletin board in the White House's press office after the inauguration.Screenshot from viral video of Joe Biden taking a selfie with NYT elevator operator Jacquelyn Asbie ("I love you. You're like my favorite"). Biden was mocked and derided to his face by the NYT, who went on to dismiss him as a candidate. That was the last interview he ever did with them.

@ChiaChatter Have you tried an ebook reader already?

(I got a used Kindle Fire, and it's been so nice. It's thin and lightweight, lets me read in the dark, and magically transforms every book into a big print edition.)

Slo-mo reno across the street continues. I'd forgotten all about that enormous satellite dish that used to fill the space between the two houses. It vanished at some point; apparently it just got dumped in the back. Today, it reappeared! They'd strapped it to a pickup truck down on the street and dragged it to the front yard, then cut it apart with an angle grinder. Whew, noisy.

Ha, yesterday was an anomaly. We're back to our regular schedule of 60s and rain. :blobcatjustright:

It was in the high 70s most of the day, whew.

Since last spring we've mainly been hovering in the 50-60 range, with drops into the 40s at night. Plus rain, rain, rain, yet more rain. Now I'm feeling a bit conflicted about the idea of an actual summer. Like, what, NOW you're showing up? :blobcathmph:

Umph. Yeah, okay. Maybe tomorrow night will be the last night of fireworks. At least, after a week, the cats have gotten used to it. :blobcatexhausted:

I've been trying out a darning loom lately for my socks, and so far I'm not satisfied with the results. I mean, sure, they're perfectly functional repairs, but they could look nicer (even though I'm the only one who'll ever see them). So I started eyeing the old, holey wool blanket. It has plenty of holes to practice on.

The temperature has finally(!) inched up to the 70s today, woooo. Also it's raining again, which it seems to do at least once every day now. (It's fine; we got hardly any snow, so we need that water.)

Last night before the thunderstorm I was trotting around in the dark closing sashes and accidentally shut a cat inside one. Investigating the mystery thumping a little while later revealed a Hanbyeol face pressed against the glass on the wrong side. Yikes.

Current queue:
3 journal articles

As of this morning, the book's gone. I'm waiting on today's mail for a package.

Fairly anxious week. The screen blacks out every time the power switches from battery to cord, and it's happening all the time now. A replacement cord is coming today. If that's not the source of the problem, replacing the battery is next. (I went through this same sequence with Old Lenovo once, grah.)
