An acceptable use of AI would be to scan the Wikipedia “<month> <year> in History” summary pages and compose extra verses for “We Didn’t Start the Fire” in perfect metre and rhyme.
Today, my wife and I started SHIFT, a FREE bike share program in #Yellowknife . Participants borrow either a city bike, city e-bike, cargo bike, or e-trike for 2 weeks to test out living a more car free lifestyle. Hopefully, by the end of the 2 weeks, folks have realized it's not only easy to travel by bike, but you feel better, lose weight, save money, help the environment, and have fun!
This is made possible by the GNWT Healthy Choices Fund, & in partnership with #NWT Recreation & Parks Association, Overlander Sports, Signed, & many others. Check out our website, & if you know a Yellowknifer, encourage them to make the SHIFT! #BikeTooter #bike #BikeCommuting
This is really neat. https://oldbytes.space/@kenshirriff/112666771617952625
I read “Inclusive Transportation: A Manifesto for Repairing Divided Communities” by Veronica Davis, & I flew through it because it was so interesting! It’s of good advice for everyone from engineers to planners & advocates. I will try to use its concepts in my safe streets advocacy

Again:
"Hundreds of tractors sealed off streets close to the EU headquarters to protest what they see as excessive red tape and unfair trading practices."
https://www.dw.com/en/brussels-farmer-protests-turn-violent-as-eu-ministers-meet/a-68675827
Without their tractors, hundreds of farmers would look like a smallish crowd. Nothing like the Fridays For Future demonstrations where tens of thousands take to the streets.
And nobody at Fridays For Future throws Molotov cocktails.
@phillmv worst part about living in Hamilton by far is that the water is to the north
Owen Pomery has a great article about how to make good architectural drawings that make the space feel lived in. cc @cidney https://kiosk.substack.com/p/believable-space?triedRedirect=true
@afterconnery "let's go for a drive in the country" aka you'll be constantly tailgated unless you drive 30% over the speed limit and at least once per hour someone will pass you dangerously
Facebook has a "lite" option, just like you can buy lite cigarettes 👉👃
this is a really good update on the current state of nuclear as a generation technology
"what if someone doesn't read the documentation for this function you wrote and calls it in a totally unreasonable and inappropriate way and it doesn't work the way they expected?"
😑
also, you learned all the math you need for taxes by like 5th grade. the math isn't why it's confusing! it's literally a labyrinth of little rules.
that being said, algebra (let r equal the tax rate and x equal your earnings; then the tax t that you owe is defined by t = r*x) is the only way mankind has identified. by which you could explain those rules in a consistent way without having to hold hundreds of sentences of text in your head, so... maybe you should have learned MORE algebra?
I know that for the vast majority of ppl things like algebra and parabolas are "math they'll never use" and "time I could have used learning how to file taxes", however to me the little math high I get whenever I get to trot out Taylor Theorem and apply it to a real-world modeling problem is worth it. thank you all for your sacrifice
@antonlodder
Ah but where will you find a bike of Theseus with such swank 80s frame decals!
@anthill next step is nicer brakes. after that... lighter frame 🙈
update: put some new tires on the miele. this drops the weight by about 1kg and should give me a lot more cushion + grip #BikeTooter #xbiking
#Vancouver ... demonstrating that you can put #housing on top of just about anything.
For the past few years I've become a bit of a grumbler about reinforced concrete. Its widespread use and unbelievably short lifespan in urban/architectural terms is rapidly becoming a planetary-scale problem.
"Early 20th-century engineers thought reinforced concrete structures would last a very long time – perhaps 1,000 years. In reality, their life span is more like 50-100 years, and sometimes less."
