Do not sit in the sun. Remain at least ninety million miles away from it at all times
If you’re white and have free time, disposable income, and the desire to end militarized racism, the path is straight through your municipality’s police budget. You can testify. You can write letters. You can join up with others and organize tactics. You can push for funding the things we need: non-cop first responders, housing, social services, help for those managing addiction or trauma. The patterns are pretty much the same in every town - please be part of the solution if you can.
The neurodivergent urge to put half of your statements in brackets* (because you want to give additional content)

“under the present brutal and primitive conditions on this planet, every person you meet should be regarded as one of the walking wounded. We have never seen a man or woman not slightly deranged by either anxiety or grief. we have never seen a totally sane human being.”
― Robert Anton Wilson
The tragedy of the commons is a pernicious myth.
The demise of the commons of Britain and Europe wasn't the result of misuse by commoners, but enclosing by the landowners. The original hypothetical was made up for storytelling purposes, and the term was popularized by an ecologist with anti-immigrant and racist views.

Retrospective analysis of early MMORPG design is fascinating. Many things that were deemed "overpowered" or considered exploits would be considered baseline quality of life features in modern games--like fast travel. Probably in part because the gameplay was so shallow that without time-sinks like making players spend 25 minutes running someplace they would progress "too quickly" and get bored.
@cosmicdash I get ideas when I'm driving, which has led to me running errands specifically to have drive-think time.
If you enjoy classic Resident Evil or Silent Hill-ish survival games (and all their accompanying genre conceits) and aren't going to have an issue with a lot of flashy, glitchy visual effects, definitely give it a look. Took me about 10 hours to finish and I marathoned it in one day.
Signalis is officially the most amazing game I've played this year. I don't think it's going to be everyone's cup of tea. But it sets out to be a weird love letter to a bunch of other things I really like, and man does it ever stick the landing.
Just to take a break from bird site nonsense…
I’ve been working for the last few days to learn #Inform7. It’s not the weirdest programming language I’ve ever seen, but it’s by far the weirdest one I’ve been motivated to use for practical purposes.
The weirdness is partially because it is highly specialized for programming #TextAdventures or #InteractiveFiction. So while it still borrows a lot from general-purpose languages, it’s almost more like a game engine.
happy no contact with shitty parents to all who celebrate
OK I love the pragmatic and highly accessible Marxist analysis of big tech that @tim just kicked off, psyched to see where this goes
Despite what some people think, nature is not all about competition. Nature is about assistance. From the bacteria in your stomach helping you digest your food, to the tall trees which nurture entire forests, to the birds cleaning the teeth of large animals which could easily eat them, to all the people who volunteer their time to help those in need.
Life helps life to keep going. That applies to people too. One of the main reasons we're here is to help others be here.
It's interesting the amount of conflicts between autistic people and our parents is the parent being undiagnosed autistic without a clue and trying to force unhealthy coping/masking behaviors on their kids
Many have marked the speed with which Muad'Dib learned the necessities of Arrakis. The Bene Gesserit, of course, know the basis of this speed. For the others, we can say that Muad'Dib learned rapidly because his first training was in how to learn. And the first lesson of all was the basic trust that he could learn. It is shocking to find how many people do not believe they can learn, and how many more believe learning to be difficult. Muad'Dib knew that every experience carries its lesson.
