Used Firefox web page translation feature for the first time. Up until now it was mostly annoyance due to drop down appearing on it's own (is there a setting to turn that off?).
The German website was translated seemingly well. Of course I can't verify, but since it was just a simple read, it was good.
One thing where it didn't work that well was initial cookie prompt, where it translated text, but not text on buttons, had to guess which one does what.

@bagder no JavaScript :)
Or is that hiding in some page?

API docs as comments in comments in code look like a nice idea.
Until someone actually writes a comprehensive documentation in there: several paragraphs with code examples. When doc comments take most of the file and gets difficult to find the code, I'm no longer sure it's a good idea to have the two in the same place.

When you come to work on Monday and there is one unread e-mail, immediate reaction is: what happened?

@mjg59 I bet since then even RMS has changed the opinion. Otherwise entire iPhone could be considered hardware with apps being optional hardware components.

@mjg59 actially it sounds more like RMS microwave moment, where conclusion was: if it's not modifyable for you, consider it part of hardware. Granted, in 2025 I'd like the right to repair, and for that right to include the right to repair software.

@kaplag no icon for me, have to press that icon to the right of battery and the bluetooth option to see devices. And I'm so used to linux playing a short sound whenever volume is changed...

According fanboys MacOS is supposedly this marvel of usability.
So I've got bluetooth headphones. No visual indication whether they are connected. Could hit volume buttons, but there is no sound feedback either. So it's either couple mouse clicks on tiny buttons, or play something and be ready to disturb people around.
Yes, fanboys, I know it's headphones problem, not your beloved OS problem. I claim otherwise.

@simone_z the one in Vilnius is not bad either.

Continuing rants.
So there is this software called Kolide, which does enterprise security whatever checks.
So I have it's icon in taskbar, that I can use to recheck. Which will open web page in browser, that then will launch the local checker to check...
I have no words...

Could be faster, but it's an office wifi with many people. And it finished, so it was arounda bit over 0.5GB, Apple update barely progressed and now estimates 9 hours!
What's the year?

In the mean time booted other one an now pulling git changes. Past 3GiB mark in a matter of minutes. Not my side for sure.

Perhaos Apple could allocate some of those billions they make to improve their update infrastructure?
Mac tells me update will take about 4 hours and it looks to be correct with most of that time being 3GB download. Internet on my side is for sure not that slow.

So, since ARM 8.1 now there is swp (swap) and cas (campare and swap) instructions, that are used to implement atomic operations exchange and compare-exchange. Not so much RISC anymore?
Also, does it mean compare_exchange_strong and _weak are now the same? Generated assembly looks the same, so I guess no more spurious failures.

Looking at tiobe index, where poorly designed C/C++ occupy 2nd and 3rd places, hacked in a week JavaScript comfortably at 6th.
I don't think Java (4) or SQL (10) are particularly well designed either.

So, whenever someone claims any language is good because it's popular, you know my answer.

I mainly work with C++ and C#.

@randahl I think that's a later model, probably T-34_85, those entered service in 1944.

@runevision @Tak I know what they are, but they don't just appear on their own on file system. Opening folder in Finder is enough, but what kind of automation does that?

@Tak I'd be asking what tools are being used?
The old good command line zip utility creates perfectly good zip files without that non-sense.

Absolutely terrific Google Play feature: you search for app and it is shown to you as second hit!
The first one is some sponsored app, relevant to the search. This is ad-fraud IMO, I guarantee quite a few people install that first hit, artificially boosting the app as well as Gs advertisement "success".
