Has your phone stopped working because of the #3g shutdown?

@geordie can confirm my 2019 MBP (intel!) was being fucking stupid yesterday, for some reason all of the content indexing stuff started at once. Then my work VM decided to do patch scanning. Machine became unusable. I went away and left them to sort it out. When I came back it was still thrashing away so killed the VM and installed the latest OS upgrade. After the reboot things settled down. Uptime was 50+ days which I always take as a bad sign.

@stilgherrian Someone called the State Governments bluff it seems.

@stilgherrian If this thread carries on (im sure it wont) then their marketeers will have achieved their goal of getting people talking about their Splunk Potential.

@allrite @stilgherrian sounds like something @levels_check needs to get onto.

@arichtman What’s even more impressive about this is that they aren’t even making an effort to spin customers onto another AWS service. I think AWS has just decided they don’t want a product in this space. Puts a huge question mark over the future of their GitHub competitor product, whose name escapes me and isn’t even available in ap-se-2.

@arichtman From one of the AWS SA’s today.

Hi Andrew,
The following is from the AWS CodeCommit Service
Team:
Beginning on July 25th, 2024, AWS CodeCommit ceased
onboarding new customers. Going forward, only
customers who have an existing repository in AWS
CodeCommit will be able to create additional repositories.
2024-07-29

AWS has just EoL’d the CodeCommit service. New customers will not be able to use it.

@geordie degree of difficulty - 0.1 score - 5.0 (competitor looked relaxed and confident as they milled around waiting for a wave, witnessed competitor telling jokes with fellow competitors, +1 point for everyone)

The best ad about depression awareness I've ever seen.

Photograph taken in a subway, text above a man not smiling at all : STEFFEN HAS DEPRESSION.
And another text above a man behind, laughing with a friend : THIS IS STEFFEN.

Depression isn't as obvious as it seems, Find out more here: deutsche-depressionshilfe.de

These Gina ads are fucken awful.

I was invited to complete a survey a while back about my views on the mining industry in Australia.

It seems my responses, and others, have caused Gina to engage a PR firm to advertise her way out of her deep unpopularity.

Gina makes Alan Bond look good.

I’m sure I saw some crappy movie once where the villain did what Gina is trying here.

I’ve been to Paris a couple of times. I don’t recall it having such a good surf break.

Foot injury persists, though improving slowly. Attended training day yesterday and while trying to avoid overstressing my foot, I’ve rooted my lower back. 😩

2024-07-28

@daedalus @haakon probably quicker and easier to go poking around some mining regions and pick up a few sources they seem to just leave lying around the place.

The New South Wales Rural Fire Service has a great page to help people in bush fire prone areas to prepare. rfs.nsw.gov.au/plan-and-prepar

While a NSW Govt. agency, I would imagine their advice is applicable to people all around the world who live with the risk of bush fire.
