Opening weekend of our new San Francisco South Asian Radical History Walking Tour was better than we could have imagined.
We ran four lovely, emotional sold-out tours over two days, operating on love and adrenaline. People came from as close by as the neighborhood, and as far away as Amsterdam. (1/4)
My dad and I spent the afternoon together at a #NoKings protest, holding a little flag and a hand-me-down “resist” sign, and surrounded by thousands of people of all ages and backgrounds. Moments like this make me feel so grounded. It’ll be hard, but we’re going to get through this.
Shit. Aurora Theatre is one of my favorite things in Berkeley

Happy APIA Heritage Month!
I’m excited to announce something special: a day-long Bay Area South Asian radical history tour, spanning both sides of the Bay, on Saturday June 7.
This is a one time only event, celebrating four generations of Desi movements in the Bay. Spots are limited!
I’ve been dreaming of this for years.
The tour will start in Berkeley, and end up in SF. We’ll be covering stories of Ghadar revolutionaries, queer Desi anti-war organizers, feminist performers, Muslim tamale sellers, Tamil pirates, post-9/11 solidarity, and more.
All proceeds benefit ASATA and Asian Refugees United. Thanks for helping spread the word!
P.S. we also run our regular shorter (and much cheaper) monthly walking tours. Come join us sometime:
Examples of what Trump gutted today (there's more):
- CDC’s Vessel Sanitation Program, which helps the cruise industry prevent public health issues, inspects cruises, and provides information on outbreaks
- Lead Poisoning branch that works to eliminate childhood lead
- the Asthma and Air Quality Branch, which focuses on minimizing nonoccupational human exposure to air pollutants, carbon monoxide, mold, and wildfires
THIS IS SERIOUS:
The Times of India is reporting that there are hundreds of international students across the U.S. getting their student visas immediately revoked, reportedly for supporting Gaza on social media.
This is apparently based on Marco Rubio’s directive to analyze students' social media posts.
Targeted students have to immediately leave the country, and submit their physical passports to US embassies so their visas can be canceled.
One more reason why I finally subscribed to @WIRED
A guide to hiking some of the trails in the East Bay Parks Trails Challenge by transit. I especially enjoy and recommend the Garin Regional Park loop, from Union City BART plus a short bus ride (or bike ride with mostly protected bike lanes).

Has anyone tried using Signal call links yet?
Great op-ed by @marcprecipice and @libbington on broad support for better cycling infrastructure in Berkeley:
I got laid off today, with the rest of 18F.
18F was an elite federal software shop. We made gov't websites work better, more efficiently for the American people. We saved taxpayers from getting screwed over by contractors. And were fired for it.
We made this website to tell our story:
TLDR:
OSHA published recommendations for nursing home employers to help reduce the risk of work-related musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs).
Now it’s been deleted by Trump’s linguistic purge, because the word “gender” appears on page 10 of 44.
Love is...a partner who conspires with you to create many things but today especially this: Valentines for the planner, architect, landscape architects, transportation folks and those who love them.
Sharing this project that @anirvan and I created in 2014, and this card, in honor of Donald Shoup.
Check out the series at https://www.planninglove.org/
RIP #DonaldShoup.
In 2014, I got a chance to give Donald Shoup a copy of the Shoupista valentine's day card that @barnali and I made.
He laughed, and it totally made my week. Here's the card.
@jef thanks. Hopefully this doesn’t happen often.
@jef what station were you boarding at?
When NYC started congestion pricing last week, we knew the local mainstream press would be out talking to drivers who were against the toll. So we went out and heard from some people who weren’t driving, including advocates who fought for this historic program.
