My semi-anual reminder to turn on braille mode in Google Docs/sheets/slides if you are a screenreader user. You can do this by pressing ctrl+alt+h, or by enabling braille mode from tools > accessibility settings.

Do this even if you are not a braille user. It does far more than enable support for braille displays. What it actually does is place the document in an off-screen content editable. This allows you to use normal screenreader commands to access things, E.G. insert+down arrow for say all. With braille mode off, the content is in a black box that communicates state changes via live regions, relying 100% on the browser to do so correctly. Despite it being the default, this mode is considered legacy and is no longer developed,.

This has been the case for 8+ years but Google is bad at branding, leaving it to me to inform the good people of Mastodon.

You’re welcome!

The next update to Leasey will contain support for the Enafore social networking web-based client.
This will work in a similar way to the Leasey support for X.

Easily browse through posts with the Up and Down arrow keys.
Abbreviated Mode removes a lot of verbal clutter so you only hear the author and post.
More logical shortcut keys.
Sounds when appropriate to indicate events.
Nicknames for users, perhaps when the author's username is long or complex.

The developers of Enafore have done an excellent job of ensuring the service is accessible. But it often comes back to the argument of accessible and usable. This support makes it more usable and efficient. Improving efficiency is one of Leasey's targets. #LeaseyLove

In StationPlaylist Studio, a new feature was introduced in version 6.1, Options, General. Preload File Insert Break Notes. It is a check box.
This is a good option as it allows you to see a file in the playlist which the break note has imported.
However, it comes with a health warning.

This applies if you have scheduled a break note to play a specific file or folder.
If you regularly use an hourly news file, and the file name changes hour by hour, there is a high probability that file will not play out. This is because the playlist referencing the old file is usually created before the file name changes.
Fortunately that doesn't apply to us because the file name is always the same, but I've just encountered a situation where that certainly does apply.
So if you find your news is not playing out, or any show come to that where the file name has changed, that could be the reason.
Probably safer to have it unchecked because then, the file is only accessed at the precise point when it is needed.

Quick tip for users of X: To mute a phrase or hashtag, go to this URL: x.com/settings/muted_keywords. You have a lot of control there over what gets muted, from whom and for how long.
