I tried that "Create your own GPT" thing, trying to create an assistant to help me understand the details of the SysML standards. Trying to test it now and it's horrendously slow, taking minutes to even formulate the first part of its answer to a simple question.

My car’s parking-assist cameras can be queried remotely from an iOS app. The other morning during a particularly boring series of meetings, I triggered the camera every few minutes then stitched the results into a short time-lapse. Turns out I parked in a spot with some nice shadows.

Sad passing to note. I didn't work much with Pascal, but when I did I found it to be an elegant and easy to use language.
So glad this three legged angel came to live with us five years ago. She makes me so happy.
@Bri@fwoof.space I gave it a slightly more complicated task, moving files around, and its first iteration it was moving files into places that might not exist. That was the kind of error it made. I was able to suggest some optimizations it hadn't foreseen, and at one point had to tell it to restructure a loop to be more efficient. It always generated code that would run, but not always correct code.
I'm glad you're getting good results, but you should closely inspect every line (if you're not already : ).
We're still iterating, but I expect the script to eventually be correct and even useful.
Most importantly: I think we're going to get the correct code written in less time than I could have written it on my own.
It was ChatGPT 4, by the way.
Did a little experiment just now. I asked ChatGPT to write a bash script for me to move some files around. Fascinating experiment.
Early, somewhat surprising assessment: ChatGPT can, in fact, write code that looks like it will run (I'm currently inspecting rather than executing) and looks mostly correct. I'm finding that it makes a ton of freshman mistakes, but what's fascinating is ChatGPT's ability to correctly interpret the suggestions I make, to "understand" them, and to generate new code.
