For many reasons I've outlined in a number of places, I'm picking up and moving myself to BlueSky.
Thanks to the kind people who set up this HPC mastodon instance and gave this a solid try. Your efforts aren't lost - they've just found a new home. I'd encourage you all to come and join us all over there.
I'm not imagining that BlueSky is perfect, but it's good enough [for now].
Mainly, it'll become what we make of it. Come help us with that.

Huge props to the EESSI team for winning a Reader's Choice Award. We're glad to be able to support projects like these, because this is where great software, and great ideas are born. Anything that makes it easier (well, EESSI'er) to get your hands on what you need - well, we're fans.
@AlanSill I don't doubt that Bsky could end up awful, too - tho it'll take some serious effort to turn it into the swamp that is now twitter. We'll see. Maybe the caravan will move on again.
But for now, something good appaears to be happening there. And a lot of the tech sector seems to have set up home there, too.
I'm looking for a place that's not as corporate'ish as LinkedIn and has some of the feel of old-twitter. Bsky fits (for now).
@AlanSill I totally get what you're saying. And I think the other stuff you've pulled together is useful to different groups (esp discord, which is great for those narrower topics in greater depth than social media can ever deliver for).
But it's clear that the crowd/herd moved on from the mastodon instance some time ago (we often go for truly hours between posts here).
Yes, we innovate and engineer things for a living. We're #HPC people - it's what we do.
But it helps to stop every now and again, and think about *why* we do this. This is why we get up in the morning, and often work late. Passion for an outcome that matters to all of us.
This is *why* I'm in #HPC. It's the Highly Passionate Crew. And proudly so.
