https://mastodon.social/@brainwane/105402420541976673 this was a fun time
Cons of looking at weird fringe internet-based politics:
- I mentally overestimate how significant (culturally or otherwise) those ideas are, because of exposure;
- I don't get most of it and I feel a slight pressure to spend time getting it when it would almost definitely not be worth it
Pros of looking at weird fringe internet-based politics:
- I get to see tweets like "unmute me reactionary coward"
Never forget: most of us have been poisoned by a toxic educational system that teaches us systematically that failing at a task or not knowing a correct answer is shameful.
There is no inherent shame in failure, in not knowing, or in being wrong, and we shouldn't actively shame others for it.
Get back up, learn something new, and try again.
Anyway, for anyone who may have missed it: @phildini and I are seeking new caretakers for The Shop: https://wandering.shop/@phildini/108210776141815606
If we find said caretakers I may stick around in some kind of emeritus capacity, but as demonstrated by my disappearance it's not a good idea for me to be a single point of anything around here.
@twistylittlepassages @e@dolphin.town @kit This was fantastic. Thank you both for a big grin.
if you were wondering what happens when oulipo.social (doesn't allow the letter E) meets dolphin.town (only allows the letter E): https://dolphin.town/users/e/updates/2643
@clayote@cybre.space Indeed! As I mentioned elsewhere in the thread https://mastodon.social/@brainwane/108215620455880930 that's currently the most likely choice
@astraluma I predict greater sustainability, reliability, performance, and better, faster, and more personal customer support, etc.
I've appreciated the recommendations! Good to know about https://librem.one/ , https://masto.host/ , and many other options. So far I think @SocialCoop is likely the best fit, as a paid-users-only shared instance for folks of about my temperament, that does not (unlike @cloudisland.nz ) specifically cater to a geographic locality really far from me, and and (unlike https://dobbs.town/) require that I join the Church of the SubGenius.
@xor I got a lot of recommendations in https://mastodon.social/@brainwane/108170876238727964 and I think you might be interested in https://dobbs.town/about
@Zee@social.coop @redoak Thank you! I'm strongly considering Social.Coop or Librem One. I have actually mostly enjoyed BigBlueButton better than Jitsi so the BBB access is a plus!
@SocialCoop Thank you very much for the info! I'm strongly considering Social.Coop and Librem One, and knowing that a Social.Coop member can use the Meet.Coop BBB instance for no additional cost is very cool!
The https://social.coop/terms page links to https://socialcoop.loomio.org/ which doesn't work; can you provide a working link?
@stux Thank you very much! I'm most interested in instances where ONLY paid customers can be users, because I predict those instances will have the most reliability and have less vulnerability to, e.g., floods of newcomers overwhelming the system, reducing performance, etc. and because I'll be more assured of user support if I need it. But it's very good to know about your offerings!
@dafunk @JonathanTreffler Thanks for the pointer. Right now @purism and social.coop are the strongest contenders! But it's also very good to hear the recommendations for Masto.host in case I ever want to run my own instance.
@arthur Thank you! I *think* I'm not interested in running my own instance (even if I don't have to sysadmin it myself), but I will keep Masto.host in mind in case I change my mind.
@Sandra Thank you! I *think* I am not interested in having my own instance (even if I don't have to sysadmin it) but I will keep Masto.host in mind in case I am wrong!
@edsu Thanks. I'm strongly considering social.coop.
The Governance section of https://social.coop/terms links to https://socialcoop.loomio.org/ which is a dead link. Is there an updated one?
