Van een zestiende-eeuws Venetiaans masker tot een piekfijn bewaard gebleven boek uit 1753 over spectaculaire vuurwerkkunst in Vlissingen: kunstgeschiedenisstudenten @utrechtuniversity mochten tijdens mijn cursus over vroegmoderne festivalkunst🥳 eeuwenoude objecten bestuderen.

Door die objecten zelf te behandelen en te bespreken, kregen studenten een goede indruk van de grote variëteit aan vroegmoderne festivalkunsten, hun functie en materiaal en het soort publiek waarvoor ze gemaakt werden🤩

@utrechtuniversity visited the Dordrechts Museum!

🔎They studied the modern and early modern art collections of the museum and discussed these with conservator Pim Aarts and educator Kachiri van Zwam.

👊Van de Dam tot het Museumplein: met meer dan 30,000 mensen protesteerde ik gisteren in Amsterdam tegen racisme en fascisme wereldwijd.

🇵🇸Ik demonstreerde met name tegen het apartheidsregime van Israël en de genocide die het pleegt op het Palestijnse volk; tegen het extreemrechtse anti-immigratie beleid van het kabinet-Schoof in Nederland; en tegen het anti-intellectuele klimaat dat datzelfde kabinet, net als de regering-Trump, propageert. 📣I'm not striking out of mere self-interest, just as any other profession would defend its interests. I'm on strike because education and research are in danger worldwide. Books are being burned, critical students such as Mahmoud Khalil are being arrested, research on important subjects ...

... A signal to The Hague and university management that the functional cutbacks in higher education must be completely off the table. “Do not obey in advance”, as Timothy Snyder writes.

.... And with that the critical function that universities fulfil: keeping authority in check, seeking connections between people, devising solutions for urgent world problems. Without science there is no knowledge, and without knowledge there is no democracy.
