@abraham I find it fascinating that we went from skeuomorphic to flat to not only skeuomorphic but trying to duplicate the effects of physical materials on a digital display. Best rest assured, this skeuomorphic design is totally revolutionary compared to the old ones!

This.

Can we stop coding the Elon / Trump meltdown as being somehow feminine? They’re not gay men divorcing, they’re not being “bitchy,” they’re not ‘’mean girls,’ etc. They are two grown ass MEN who cannot control their own emotions or ignore intrusive thoughts.

@Jackson Yeah fortunately my bandwidth requirements for services are pretty mild (streaming audio from a Navidrome instance is the most bandwidth intensive) and latency is a non-issue for my applications. Meanwhile the performance between my home and the Linode I have in Fremont, California has been more than adequate for my needs. If I was, say, streaming video over the internet from my Jellyfin instance, things would be lot more complicated...

Warning to folks in #yeg on #telus broadband who host services at home: Telus has apparently started silently deploying CGNAT in the region which means any IPv4 hosted services on your home network will be toast. At this point I think I'm just going to set up my own tunnel to a VPS I rent that has static IPs so I never have to deal with something like this again...

Not gonna lie, the Trump administration is genuinely impressing me by their ability to find creative new ways to be petty, bigoted, hateful pieces of shit:

And every day I'm increasingly grateful that we elected Carney over PP and his band of paleoconservative compatriots. He may be a PC in Grit clothing but at least Carney doesn't delight in punching down.

You know, Habaneros make really nice (if messy, what with all the blossom dropping) house plants. And man are they tasty!

Spotted my first tent caterpillar here in #yeg after noticing a number of large tents in neighbourhood trees last year... 😬

I heard an interview this morning regarding the building of another “Bridge Healing” facility in Edmonton. We need more of this in the struggle to help the houseless. This is a program that aims to actually help people rather than penalize them and it’s heartening to see it receive support from both the City and the Province.

The new facilities are part of the "Bridge Healing" program that
offers housing and support services to homeless patients discharged from hospitals, the City of Edmonton said in a Friday news release. The buildings will offer 24 private suites for homeless patients, based on similar full-capacity facilities in Glenwood that host 36 guests.

The "Bridge Healing" program also gives homeless patients access to a wide spectrum of support services, like gaining life skills, getting personal identification, and securing permanent housing.

I feel like part of teaching people to be better communicators should come with breath control lessons. Simply learning to pause and breathe at the end of sentences instead of in the middle can make a huge difference not just in speaking skills but in listening and engaging in actual back-and-forth conversation.

Brett decided I needed to die today in my training...

Okay, so maybe he gave me options, and maybe I'm the one who said fuck it, let's try 20km... even though I had 4 Patio Joe's and a Burt Reynolds shot last night with Sheila at OJ's. But hey, I survived, and rewarded myself with a lavender lemonade ice pop from Superstore!!

Two cyclists in front of an industrial park sign (says something like Anthony Henday Business Parki think) with green grass, some trees, and a beautiful blue sky in the background. Just a reminder that while I'm super fucking proud of myself for training for the Tour AB For Cancer, the main reason I'm doing it is for the foundation!! So, you know, feel free to help me beat Brett... he's still winning! And that's a travesty.

You know, it wasn't until recently that I came to fully appreciate just how much of a skill being a good listener is. I've coached staff for years about leveling up their writing and speaking skills, but being able to listen--really, truly, actively listen instead of just waiting for the next turn to talk-is deeply underrated among mature professionals, and something I really took for granted...

@grimalkina Among leadership types I find you get this kind of reaction because it's the leaders that are often responsible for those structures and systems, and if failures are a result of structural problems rather than individual grit/discipline, well...

sorry to be blunt but I cannot believe how many people will run screaming into my socials to talk about how individual grit! and individual discipline! is the only thing that matters, the instant I say something about how the best evidence we have for the largest intervention effect is a structural one

One of the many reasons I choose #debian: they understand what #OpenSource actually means. They're currently voting in the following resolution that will classify open weight, closed source models as non-free:

'"AI models released under open source license without original training data or program" are not seen as DFSG-compliant.'
