just heard a guy on the radio receive the news that the film he directed got nominated to an Oscar. he screamt and cried.
and I could relate.
I've followed the IGF for so many years. being nominated for a game I directed, feels... staggering.
Creative Director (designer/programmer/writer) at new progressive indie studio Indoor Sunglasses.
Currently making detective-inside-memories-game Mind Diver.
Love games with lots of mysteries and discoveries. Also love 4-day work weeks, co-ownership, fair workplaces, and good management.

now, 6 of us have created a real company, gotten gov. funding, and are working on a bigger, better, beautifuller version of Mind Diver.
most days, I'm just in the work.
when I take a step back, every act feels significant, everything seems full of color.
thank you, IGF <3
very very proud of the team and our game,
it was a cobbled-together team of students, from >8 different institutions.
it was the most challenging creative process, I've ever been in.
having a bunch of smart people say "it's good", relieves a part of the old doubt inside.

How does #gamedev work?
On Saturdays, you spend an hour in the rain in a park, picking up fallen soft branches to give to a friend, so she can help you make a wooden wreath an actress will wear, when you 3D-scan her next week, as a a signifier of the cult her character is in.
This game is nice to devour in my eternal hunger for extremely well-designed mobile arcade games.
Come beat me.
It, uhh, suddenly got very hard after 60 🙃

how i give myself direction
Realizing that several of my favourite games involved me taking a long break from them and returning!🤔
Disco Elysium: felt so guilty after the tribunal, I couldn't keep playing.
Dark Souls: first time reaching the bell gargoyles 🙃
Journey of 1000 Stars: Repeatedly!
And the QT!

@Nifflas@twitter.com It's my favourite WTF moment of any game! Also my favourite implementation of magic. It had such an impact on me - I literally took a break for a month from the game upon realizing the full impact of the Magic.
Extremely tempted
This is very hot

From today, Substream is now available to buy from @itchio@twitter.com and via http://substream.benbradley.com/
It's an on-rails shooter where every level morphs and animates to the soundtrack - tribal, funk, jazz from Floex (Samarost3) and chiptune from Souleye (VVVVVV). Oh, and space is looped.

Hey folks! I'm Joe and it's literally my job to help more people discover thinky games (I still can't believe this job exists).
* I run the YouTube channel Joe Plays Puzzle Games: https://youtube.com/@JoePlaysPuzzleGames
* I helped launch ThinkyGames.com: https://thinkygames.com/
* I occasionally make puzzly things: https://josephmansfield.uk/ and https://sftrabbit.itch.io/
* And more to come!
If you enjoy or are even mildly intrigued by thinky games (I'd love more people to discover this world), give me a follow!
So you're just getting started in Mastodon huh?
Here's a neat thing. On the web interface you can search for a Hashtag.
Same as you can on Twitter.
Something like #Ukraine, for example
But on the search results, see that little user icon on the right? Click it and you'll follow it as if it's a user!
New posts with that tag will arrive in your home page, even if you don't follow the author yet
A few recommendations for life on Mastodon:
1) Follow anyone you think looks potentially interesting; you can always unfollow later, and they may lead you to new people via boosted posts.
2) Boost posts you think are worthy, so others can discover new content.
3) Don't obsess on replicating your Twitter follows on Mastodon; let it be its own experience, and grow it organically. Obvs follow anyone you miss from Twitter, but this isn't a 1:1 replacement; have fun, follow your instincts.
@radiatoryang do you... make game?
