Imagine, a new iPhone with:

- latest/best cameras
- latest/best screen
- latest/best CPU+memory
- latest/best battery
- no Apple Intelligence
- no SIRI
- no AutoCorrect
- no Apple Wallet or Apple Pay
- no Apple News
- no iCloud
- no Game Center
- no games
- no Apple Health or Fitness
- no Spotlight Search
- no Live Picture
- no Liquid Glass nonsense
- a substantially less expensive price

Chances I would buy such a phone: 99.9%
Chances of Apple making it, ever: 0%

That does it. It’s time someone made an epic Icelandic .

Witnessed spectacular high-speed police chase on southbound I-25 between Santa Fe and ABQ this morning around 9am. Perp flew by at probably 130mph—on the SHOULDER. He was flying along passing everyone on the shoulder—super dangerous. Then in mirror I see the cop lights. Two cop SUVs pass us by in left lane at top speed, sirens blaring. Seconds later, 3 more cop vehicles. Moments later, more cops passed. All going at least 120mph.

No clue what the outcome was, nothing in the news.

@hackerfactor

“Beware of surfers who drop their surfboards” perhaps?

In San Diego/La Jolla people added surfboards to cyclist caution signs—which was fair, given how many cyclists carried boards around with ‘em

@nealcurtis

Pathetic and creepy.

The era feels very 1880s-huckster with snake-oil cure-alls and BS advances in industrialization, science, technology, and medicine. Like then, everyone smells money.

The stupid never changes.

If you tweak the image to extreme limits you can more easily tell it’s just two “circles,” or, more accurately, akin to two concentric, circular, careful arrangements of “snake-skin” scales with special repeating patterns.

The brain’s totally not ready to handle the unaltered image but does better with my version.

@ceejbot

Ceej thanks for the excellent summary. The only reason I even know who Karen Read is or that she’s on trial(s) is because of your posts. I watched the two full Youtube videos of the pathologist lady and ARCCA guy testimony and yeah, Brennan comes across as an idiot. And the judge: bought?

Now I’m officially interested in this case. All your fault 🙂

Very cool but note the songs come from a wide variety of dates — from 1905 thru 1987. IMHO it’s extremely unlikely that that first track, “Entertaining Song,” was recorded on a wax cylinder: the audio would be terribly scratchy with tons of surface noise. That first track rather sounds like a field recording made decades later with a good mic or mics and a Nagra machine or something.

@1hawaiiboy

I’ve always struggled with the concept of music from post-European-contact being “Hawaiian.” I’m super-eager to understand the full spectrum of indigenous Hawaii from the pre-Capn-Cook era, but what still exists? Obviously no recordings, but what about instruments?What’s been passed down? And was it basically meles/chants?

@raganwald

I’ve never understood why folks use AutoCorrect. It’s arguably the world’s most popular, most often-used, computer game. The game is: you let the computer guess what word you’re typing. It’s somewhat accurate, until it isn’t. Exact same principle applies to autonomous vehicles. It drives fine until it runs over a child or something. 🤷‍♂️
