The price of the subscription compared to their per-token API is a fraction of what it would cost for the same number of tokens. I bet a large chunk of the $200 subscribers are "whales" that use as much as they possibly can. Plus pretty much every news source indicates the big AI companies are still burning through billions per quarter.

@manton @isaiah The current rate you pay for AI services right now is *heavily* subsidized by VC money, so they’ll have to start charging more sooner or later (see also: Uber et al). The question is how that will balance against ways costs can be cut in the meantime.

Amidst all the buzz around things like Gas Town and Ralph, etc. there are some bits of actual substance that promise to actually empower coders — and potentially shift the power dynamic away from Big AI, while making it easier to create software just by describing ideas in plain text. @colin I think when I came across a similar situation, I wrote my own cover method in an ObjC category that returns a nullable value and call through to the incorrectly annotated method there.
