@menelion @JeffBishop - It is still being worked on!
Sadly, I have no control around what issues teams prioritize in their sprints :blobsad:
@JeffBishop Updated - thanks for letting me know!
GitHub just launched enhanced contrast controls โ now everyone can customize their theme, even when logged out ๐
Adjust contrast on light/dark modes to reduce eye strain and boost readability. Just one more step toward a more inclusive GitHub experience ๐ช

๐ Color in CSS: More Than Just Pretty Palettes
Yesterday, I hosted Mayโs #A11yTalks with Aubrey Sambor (@starshaped), who gave an excellent talk on how color impacts accessibility โ covering contrast, color-contrast(), oklch(), and more.
Her practical tips and deep accessibility knowledge made it a must-watch! ๐จ

@menelion - thank you for your kind words. I am only one small part of the larger accessibility team with very limited ability to make changes happen, but I can - and do - bring the user voice into the conversation in any way I can, whenever I can. So please keep reaching out with pain points and feature requests!
Last week was heavy โ celebrating Global Accessibility Awareness Day while saying goodbye to talented colleagues, including people on our accessibility teams.
Iโve shared more thoughts and how you can help/support in my full post on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/posts/cariefisher_last-week-was-heavy-as-we-celebrated-global-activity-7330949151096037378-OSS3
Day 5 of our #GAAD GitHub Copilot series is here ๐
Today we meet Kelly, a blind tech expert who couldnโt find retirement planning or image description tools that worked for him โ so he built his own โจ
With Copilot, Kelly tackled complex statistical analysis & coding to create custom apps: one for retirement planning, another for generating visual image descriptions ๐
His story is a powerful reminder, when the right tools donโt exist, Copilot can help you build them ๐ค
Day 4 of our #GAAD GitHub Copilot series has arrived ๐
Todayโs video features tech lead Chris, whoโs always looking for ways to level up his skills. Whether heโs diving into Google Cloud or breaking down APIs, Chris turns to GitHub Copilot to help structure study guides & supercharge his self-guided learning ๐
Instead of getting stuck searching for the right syntax or tool, Copilot lets him focus on what really matters: learning faster & building smarter ๐ช
Day 3 of the #GAAD GitHub Copilot Series ๐
Meet Tom, a software engineer intern with dyslexia, who uses GitHub Copilot to stay in the flow and thrive in fast-paced, collaborative environments๐ก
Copilot helps him quickly understand unfamiliar codebases by providing high-level overviews and detailed explanations of specific sections ๐ป
The result? Faster code comprehension โ and more confidence when building new features ๐
@cachondo - we are all just one person and each of our perspectives are valid. I'm so glad you felt comfortable enough to share your thoughts :blobcathighfive:
@cachondo - all good!
BTW I didn't write any of the discussion post titles if those are what you are concerned with, but I can share this feedback with my colleague who did.
I know they didn't intend to offend either, but will also appreciate the feedback from the larger community.
@cachondo definitely sorry not my intent at all - apologies if it came across that way.
I'm neurodivergent and can struggle with communications at times. I'm working on it - so thanks for the feedback :blobsmilehappyeyes:
Day 2 of our #GAAD Accessibility Copilot video series ๐
Today we meet @MerylEvans โ a speaker, consultant, & accessibility advocate who was born deaf. During calls she relies on captions to follow the conversation, which makes taking notes very difficult ๐๏ธ
Recently, she needed to pull notes from a call. She dropped the meeting transcript into GitHub Copilot, asked for a summary & key points โ just like that she had what she needed to prep for a big keynote โจ
First up: Meet Vytautas, a screen reader user who codes in Visual Studio Code. With GitHub Copilot by his side, editing becomes faster, smoother, and more efficient ๐ช
For more videos please follow along, share widely, and help us spark conversations around accessibility, inclusion, and AI ๐ฌ
The GitHub Copilot Accessibility video series launches today in celebration of Global Accessibility Awareness Day (#GAAD) which is Thursday, May 15th ๐
Each day this week, weโre spotlighting a new video featuring a person with lived experience using GitHub Copilot to solve real-world challenges โ both personal and professional. These stories show how AI can reduce barriers, boost productivity, and unlock creativity in coding and beyond โจ
Accessibility + Design Systems = Better Together ๐ช
Even the best design system components can unintentionally lead to inaccessible products. In this two-part series, @janmaarten explores why that happens โ and how GitHub is solving it by embedding accessibility annotations directly into its Primer components ๐
@jscholes - I will send that message along to them!
Also, they are working on updating the videos to have captions and/or audio descriptions, but that may take a couple of days to complete. I'll send an update when I have one!
Hi @jscholes โ the authors and blog team have added <figcaption> elements to all the videos.
In the context of the surrounding text, these should help users better understand what each video is demonstrating.
Thank you for the suggestion! :blobcathighfive:
Thanks @jscholes for that feedback! I'll pass it along to the authors ๐
