ยป more theoretical thinking and less (unthinking) or less confusion between and theory

Then can be a useful theoretical tool...

The thesis of implies that it is possible in principle to understand human cognition as a form of computation.
However, this does not imply that it is possible in practice to computationally (re)make cognition ยซ

Very nice paper. It seems like the #ai community is moving towards a debate that's similar to that between the contextualist and minimalist perspectives on @philosophy of language.

Can anyone please send me a PDF of the thesis I'm trying to finish? Thanks!

Don't fool yourself by thinking this is not the same battle, Musk devaluing "blue checks" (professional journalists with their norms of conduct) and Meta & OpenAI devaluing scholarship. It won't be long until someone wheels out the "censorship" and "elitism" argument against LLM critique as well.

(Note: This pseudo-fight against "authority" is always only against democratic authority, never against forced & profitable authority.)

@compthink @davetroy @philosophy Maybe the core element is not the binarism that the expression "both sides" assumes. Rather, what's bothering is that one is trying to portray its own independence from certain viewpoints as a sign of objectivity or truth.

"Both sides are criticizing us, so we must be doing something right" is the kind of fallacious reasoning that deserves its own name.

Is there a name I'm not aware of?

@RichiH well, It's all about choosing someone to trust (up to some extent) and hope for the best. As of now, I'd go with ProtonVPN. Good jurisdiction and privacy policy. Good record of transparency. Has survived (and provided good replies) to a considerable amount of scrutiny. Reasonable number of exit nodes in distinct countries. Supports wireguard and its Android app is stable and user friendly, which is good for "I just want this to work".
