Breaking News Consumer’s Handbook

1. In the immediate aftermath, news outlets will get it wrong.
2. Don’t trust anonymous sources.
3. Don’t trust stories that cite other news outlet as the source of the information.
4. There’s almost never a second shooter.
5. Pay attention to the language media uses. “We are getting reports…” could mean anything. “We are seeking confirmation…” means they don’t have it. “[News outlet] has learned…” means it has a scoop or is going out on a limb.
6. Look for news outlets close to the incident.
7. Compare multiple sources.
8. Big news brings out the fakers. And photoshoppers.
9. Beware reflexive retweeting (reposting), some of this is on you.

If you have experience designing and/or coding typography in CSS for the web, what do you find most annoying? What’s hard to do? What’s impossible?

Just a reminder to not read work messages after hours (unless you're paged or whatever) because something WILL make you grumpy and you don't deserve that during "you" time.

A login should probably just be a login.
A settings page should probably just be a settings page.

Don't innovate on things that aren't worth innovating on. Spend that "budget" where it really matters for the impact you want to have with your product.

Me: I've removed the ability to underline text that aren't links

As developers, we deal with practical challenges every day. Often, we’re so focused on the technical part of development that we forget the real purpose of our jobs. It’s not solving technical issues; it’s building products for human beings. What we do is very technical at its core, but the consequences of our decisions are very human: they strongly affect people’s lives, their access to information, and their participation in society.

He doesn't trust the system

Email from dad says: I have made some updates to the narratives. I don't want to "close out" Google Docs until you confirm that you can view my changes -- or do I have to do something for those changes to be saved?

TFW, you finally teach your father how live editing works in Google docs

TFW, you're on vacation and your husband receives word that his entire product was shut down. He's one of the lucky ones that didn't get laid off, but sheesh....

A semi-playable Doom demo I built for #FrontEndConf using CSS scroll timeline, a handful of checkboxes and has() selectors + a nice assist from image-rendering: pixelated.

Oh and no JS, as god intended.

#DesignSystems tip:

Things you need *less* complexity around:
Buttons.

Things you need *more* complexity around:
Layouts.
(Flex, grid, responsiveness, etc)
