I work in risk management and business continuity. That means I spend most of my days working out ways to destroy my employer and the community, then planning and preparing everyone to respond and recover from it.

Outside of work: My wife (of 15 years), my 13 year-old daughter, cycling (for fun/fitness), bikepacking, camping, home improvement, home automation, my annual holiday light show.

There comes a time in every man’s life when he thinks he’s installed his last ceiling fan… Then one day, years later, your kid or wife brings home another, and you realize that chapter was never really closed.

Today is the one-and-only June 1, 2025. This is more than a once-in-a-lifetime event. It's never happened before, and there will never be another. Enjoy.

Much better afternoon for a bike ride than yard work.

Looks like one of my #Reolink cams has a seal failure. After a few heavy rains and high humidity, things are a little cloudy.

@whack Had no idea it was streaming. So much for finishing yard work this afternoon. 2x thanks!

This is from a webcomic called Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal.

This is pure evil, and it brings me joy. Joy and mirth.

@courtney That's a cool idea. I'll have to test it. I imagine the current draw drops once the battery is charged.

@courtney @lmorchard I have about a dozen S31's. I didn't have to flash or use ESPHome, though you could. I just use the 'Sonoff LAN' custom component from HACS. Easy peasy.

Of course they used A-One to write it.

"Some of the citations that underpin the science in the White House’s sweeping “MAHA Report” appear to have been generated using artificial intelligence, resulting in numerous garbled scientific references and invented studies, AI experts said Thursday."

"Of the 522 footnotes to scientific research in an initial version of the report sent to The Washington Post, at least 37 appear multiple times, according to a review of the report by The Post. Other citations include the wrong author, and several studies cited by the extensive health report do not exist at all, a fact first reported by the online news outlet NOTUS on Thursday morning.

"Some references include “oaicite” attached to URLs — a definitive sign that the research was collected using artificial intelligence. The presence of “oaicite” is a marker indicating use of OpenAI, a U.S. artificial intelligence company."

@jefframes I don't have any Zigbee devices, so for me, it was a new hub whichever way I went. The GW1100 is tiny and USB powered. Easy to hide with some other stuff on a shelf in the garage and signal has been reliable so far. If I already had a Zigbee hub, I'd probably try it first, and return if it didn't work.

@jefframes I just installed a couple of Ecowitt soil moisture sensors, which required getting a GW1100 gateway (also has HA integration). As I was looking for 'what else might I use this for?', I found they are generally compatible with Ambient Weather sensors. Will definitely keep them in mind next time I nerd out about local weather.
