@jaklacroix @dukepaaron That sounds great! If that existed in my town, I’d 100% be there. Just a group of people saying a few bruchas and maybe have some seed questions on the parshah? If you’re serious, there really are a lot of examples out there. Many have web/socials presence because it’s become so cheap/free and the easiest way to communicate to the whole group.

@jaklacroix One factor: very rough guesses looking around my shul (that I drive >100 miles to attend) - we get about 5% of our members on a typical non-chag, non-simchah Shabbat. That means you need at least 200 members for a reliable minyan. A few more… You don’t “have” to have clergy to daven, but if you want a rabbi and/or cantor, they have to be able to live = salary/ies or really good (and relevant) working opportunities, e.g., university Jewish Studies professorship?, to augment. Oh, and you really do need at least a Torah scroll. There -are- creative ways around all these issues, but they take real work and long-term commitment.

Being called a colonialist by white Americans when you're a Jew whose family come to Israel as refugees of hate crimes is fucking ridiculous. Also clearly some of you don't know what colonialism mean. We have no mother country. Still wrapping my head around Haviv Rettig Gur’s commentary in today’s ToI Daily Briefing. They headline it thus: “How Israel’s poor public diplomacy may help it win the war” but it took me a couple listens to figure out how they see it positively. He freely admits that Israeli PR is a disaster for foreign relations and will require “damage control afterwards, more than damage control.” 1/2
