Hi there! I'm Charles. I'm researching and thinking a lot nowadays โ most interested in ways to improve learning and dynamicland-style interaction.

@forresto Ooh! Very snazzy thank you
Had some fun with a friend's pen plotter today!
cuttle.xyz was great to play with
@cemerick Oof I didn't know about the facebook lobbying! Sad times :(
Yeah nice to hear your side of things! I'm still worried about potential foreign influence over tiktok. I could very well imagine other countries being worried about US influence as well. It seems like a tough trade-off between freedom of speech and being accepting of foreign influence. Maybe the goal should be allowing freedom of speech by your own citizens on your own platform? Obviously huge possible pitfalls there too...
Added a subscribe link to my website! Follow along if you so please :) https://inclouds.space
@cemerick Ah yeah that is pretty silly!
I'm less concerned about the problems with privacy as I am with a foreign government potentially having some control over a large source of the media young people consume. What do you think?
@cemerick why?
New post! The evolution of technical innovations: https://inclouds.space/blog/the-evolution-of-technical-innovations/
A juxtaposition that needs to be made:
Really happy to have found https://lunar.fyi/ for controlling an external monitor's brightness with the keyboard!
There are a few times in any given week where I feel I can type way faster - my fingers feel like they can move quickly and easily. This appears to be strongly though not completely correlated with how warm my body is. Is this something you experience too?
How often do you think about the fact that you're a primate? Been thinking about it more lately, hence: https://inclouds.space/blog/humans-are-monkeys/
(Delayed x-post from twitter. Weird world we live in!)
I learned today that small octopi will use detached Portuguese man o' war tentacles as weapons, prompting this very inaccurate but nonetheless magnificent image generation:
twice a year i write each of my kids a letter.
i describe what they're like, what they've been up to, what we've done together as a family, some sweet or funny things they've said, & a little about what's going on in the world.
@yminsky Also hope you're doing well! ๐
You could try fine-tuning GPT3 on a subset or all of Jane Street's codebase. It would not be expensive, it would not take too much time, and it would be really good at generating OCaml!
@yminsky I was very hesitant at first but It's really really helpful in Javascript. Sometimes it does things that are nonsense but for the most part it's just writing a repetitive line that I would have otherwise had to write. In the best cases it throws together functions I didn't know about to solve exactly what I needed!
I'm not sure about copilot but ChatGPT for instance is not good at OCaml...
Why aren't there progressive desktop apps like there are progressive web apps?
Something that is still just a website but looks like an app in the desktop UI. Alt-tab works properly, for instance...
@andresmh maybe logo is the wrong word? Iconographic artwork? ๐
