@StillIRise1963 The "something he did" is genocide though.

Which is the terminal point of fascism. The ultimate horror that people fight fascists to prevent.

Biden's already done it. Continues to do it.

If the argument here is "you have to re-elect the guy currently doing genocide because the other guy will genocide even harder" we're really at a point where the lesser of two evils rationale has entirely collapsed.

I didn't appreciate that zeppelins carried passengers within their envelopeโ€”I figured everybody went in the gondola, and thought they just couldnโ€™t carry many people. But, no, the gondola was just for the pilot. This setup reduced drag and could carry nearly 100 people at about 80 mph.

Bring back airships! They're as fast as U.S. trains, but don't require tracks, and are really efficient means of travel.

A diagram of the occupiable body of a zeppelin. There are a bunch couple of dozen small state rooms, a dining room, a couple of lounges, and a smoking room, plus apparently an entire (smaller) lower deck for crew.

@waldoj That looks like vastly more fun than traveling by plane. Or train for that matter.

A fun geoengineering project would be to terraform Venus. Reverse its runaway greenhouse effect, render it habitable for humans.

We should do that, collectively. As a species. As a unifying long term goal. Aim to have it completed by, say, 3800 CE.

Finally got to try a burger at Soy Boys on Church at Maitland today. Superb! Deeply satisfying classic burger experience, sans murder. Highly recommended. Best vegan burger in that I know of. Beats Odd Burger handily. soyboysburgers.ca/

#Meta will not be pleased that @BBCRD has abandoned #Threads while still maintaining their self hosted #Mastodon account.

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿพ #BBC Gives Up On Threads (By #Instagram), Sticks With Mastodon darnell.day/bbc-gives-up-on-th (via @darnell@darnell.day)

Too Long; Did Not Read:

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿพ Many brands are abandoning Threads (including #NFL)
๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿพ Metaโ€™s geo news ban of #Canada ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ could have spooked BBC
๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿพ Lack of public Threads API makes it difficult to automate posting news
๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿพ BBC just prefers Mastodon

On the Main Street TTC bus going north to Danforth this morning - packed bus, windows closed. Nobody masking. A guy and his two young kids sat down behind me. The guy coughed openly, not covering his mouth, for the entire ten minute ride, chatting away with his kids between racking, gurgling coughing fits.

I had an N95 mask on, fit tested, and just stared out the window, wondering who'll be taking care of his kids once he's been permanently disabled by long .

Ambled into a Long & McQuade this afternoon. There were about twenty people in the store, staff and customers. One woman - a customer - was visibly (and audibly) very unwell; she was coughing almost constantly. No mask, but she at least mostly coughed into her sleeve, mostly.

This clearly ill unmasked woman who probably had covid wandered through the entire store, coughing, for the full ten minutes I was there, very likely filling the unfiltered air with .

Nobody was masked. Just me.

@guacamayan Americans are used to this rhythmic cycle of Republican administrations utterly destroying the economy followed by Democratic administrations saving it. Been going on for over thirty years now.

It's really true what they say... the destruction of local news organizations removed government accountability at the city, county, and even state level, allowing them to descend into total corruption. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Also Threads just sucks. It's as fun and free spirited as a PTA meeting. An all encompassing aura of stern blandness seems to be baked into its DNA.

Started using bluesky. It's... really fun. Nails the classic pre-Elon twitter experience.

Mastodon is many things but "fun" is not amongst its top twenty characteristics.

Being here has been like staying in a community centre after one's neighbourhood was obliterated in a calamity. It's been a decent, much appreciated shelter for awhile.

Bluesky feels like it could actually be a new home though.
